"Hello?" He answers.

"Hey I miss you." I say and lay back on my bed.

"I miss you too Roni." He says. He sounds kind of rushed but he's probably really busy.

"What are you doing?" I ask with a tight smile.

"Homework, I just got home from school." He says.

"Oh yeah I forgot about the time zones. It's like 7 pm here." I tell him.

"Yeah well I'm really busy so I'm gonna get going." He says and hangs up before I could say goodbye. I was right, he's just busy.

I frown as I plug my phone into the charger and crawl into bed. He's been very distant lately and I'm having a hard time believing that he's always busy.

Tomorrow is Saturday so I don't have school but Alex, Reggie, Thalia and Jade wanted to meet up on the roof. It'll get too cold to hang out on the roof eventually but I guess it's nice for now.

"We should go to my cousins party Monday night." Reggie says and leans his elbows on the ledge.

"A party on a Monday?" Alex questions.

"It's his birthday." Reggie says.

"I can't anyways, I have to work."  She responds.

"You have a job? Where?" I ask her.

"I work at a hotel a few streets down." She tells me.

"Do you think they have any job openings? I need one." I ask.

"Actually yeah, I can ask my boss about it tomorrow." Alex says. I nod with a smile. That saves me a lot of trouble with job hunting.

"But you can't get out of work?" Reggie asks.

"I can try." She sighs.

"I'll be there." Thalia shrugs.

"Yeah me too." Jade agrees.

"I guess I can come." I say. I've only known them for a couple weeks now but I feel like I'm part of the group.

"See you guys on Monday." I say as they leave the building.

"I'll text you about the job!" Alex yells as they get further away. I nod even though she can't see me from all the way up the street.

The next day I get a text from Alex.

Alex- You have the job. They wanted an interview but it's just a hotel so I convinced them. You start on Tuesday since the party is Monday. Oh also, I'm going to that party :)

The first thing I do is run to my Aunt June's room. When I burst through the door I see her reading at her window. She glances over at me and smiles.

"Aunt June! I got a job!" I say, excited. My Aunt has more than enough money to support me and Daisy and buy us expensive things. I felt like I needed responsibility though. I worked at a movie theater in Arizona before I moved so I am used to working and receiving my own pay check.

Tomorrow's Monday. Which means I have school and a party to go to. I have no idea what I'm supposed to wear. I didn't pack any of my party clothes. I figured my lack of friends also meant lack of parties.

I'll probably borrow something from Thalia. Her apartment is pretty close so I can just walk there before the party. Maybe go there right after school? It's too late to be making plans in my head. I need sleep.

~

"You ready for the party?" Thalia asks me. She's in my first class and my last class. Jade is also in this class, but she's sitting with the kid she has to tutor.

"Yeah but I need to borrow a dress." I tell her.

"Oh it's a casual party so you can wear jeans or something like that, but you can borrow a dress if you really want." She tells me.

"Oh thank god. Jeans it is." I sigh in relief.

BEEP

"That's the bell, let's get going." She says and we walk out of the school building. Jade stays close behind, walking with Alex. I don't know where Reggie is but I'm sure he's close too.

"Thalia!" Reggie exclaims jumping at us from the left. He knocks her over but she doesn't fall because I'm there for her to bump into. She gives him a glare and we continue to walk.

We go our separate ways when me and Thalia go into her building. We do our homework for a couple hours and then watch a movie before getting ready.

I just straighten my hair, which isn't that time consuming. My hair is shoulder length and naturally wavy so it takes about 10 minutes. Thalia just throws her hair into a messy French braid and we leave the apartment.
