"Wait if someone treats you horribly don't you have a right to treat them horribly?" Becky asked at lunch. "Not necessarily Beck." Kirk replied. I was sitting in the bed of my truck being quiet.
My phone buzzed. 'Are u ok?' L, I looked up seeing Logan give me a weak smile. 'Yeah. I'm fine.'
'Don't like the conversation do you?'
'Not really.'
'Me either. Have you eaten lunch?'
'Not yet.'
'Want to sneak down to the diner and grab a bite?'
'And escape this? Why not.'I quietly got out and snuck away as he did. Once we were far enough away he started talking. "Do you want to talk about it?" He asked. I was caught off guard by his question.
"What's to talk about?" I asked. "Besides how awful Kale is, I'm guessing that it's worse." He hit it on the dot. He held the door open for me as I walked in. He followed in and we sat at a booth.
It actually felt good to sit down after last night. Trying not to wince in pain is the worst part of all this. "Need ice?" He asked. I was caught off guard again by one of his questions. I shook my head.
We ordered our drinks and were left to decide what we wanted to eat. I felt terrified to be off campus for lunch. My parents could walk in here right now and see me.
"Tessie?" I looked at him. "I know when something is bugging someone. Especially when they start acting differently than they have before." He moved next to me.
"I won't tell anyone anything about it." I know he's trying to get me to talk but I don't want to not yet anyway. He's trying to be nice and care. The waitress came out with our drinks and took our orders.
I took a sip of my tea. I knew he was watching my every move. I looked out the window seeing my dad's truck pull up. "Can we get it to go?" I asked. "Why?" He asked.
Logan's POV
I could see the fear in her eyes and hear it in her voice when a man pulled up. "Why?" I asked. She started to fidget. "Ok we can get it to go." I got our food to go and paid for it.We left out the back to make her feel better. About halfway to the school I took her hand and led her along a path. She let me lead her over to a bench. We sat down and I set out lunch in between us.
Tessie's POV
He handed me my lunch and got his out. "This is one of the best places to either skip class or to eat lunch." He said before taking a bite of his burger. I looked around after taking a bite of mine.It was beautiful out here. We finished lunch and went back to the trucks. I got in mine as he got his bag to go to his next class.
After I got off work I went to my house hoping no one was home. I parked at my house seeing no vehicles at all. Then got out to get more clothes. I went inside walking right into my dad. Last thing I remembered.
I woke up sore and hurt. I was in the bed of my truck. My phone was ringing. I checked it seeing several calls from Amber and Logan both. It was a Saturday thank you!
If first called Amber. She answered immediately. "Tessie! Oh my gosh are you ok? Don't scare me like that!"
"It's Saturday isn't it?" I asked.
"Yes! Now where are you?"
"I'm out in my fields."
"You sound like your in the hospital."
"Might need to go through." I told her.I was too sore to even move. A few minutes later I heard several vehicles. My ribs and legs both hurt. Then doors closed and the sound of running feet.
It was hard to breathe. My eyes felt heavy. My body went numb. I couldn't hear anything either.
I woke up somewhere dark. My body still hurt. I felt my arm feeling an iv. I'm in a hospital room. A red lighted button indicated the nurses call button.
I waited a few minutes before pressing it. The door opened before the light went on. A nurse came over to check my vitals.
"That was the most bruising and broken ribs we've seen in a long time sweetheart. Your lucky to be alive." She told me. "What happened?" I asked.
"Your friends brought you in after you lost consciousness." She told me. "Your lucky to have friends like that." She added.
My phone was beside the bed. She set a glass of water by the bed before leaving. I reached over and grabbed my phone. I was able to text Amber and tell her I was awake and to thank her.
About an hour later she came in with Fisher. "Thank goodness your awake." She said. Fisher leaned against the wall. "She was worried sick about you." He told me.
"Were you told how bad it was?" I asked. "Most of your ribs are broken. And your thighs are so bruised you can't walk for over a week. Their planning on keeping you here for two weeks. You were out for at least a week. We didn't tell anyone about this. We all told them you had the flu." She told me.
"Now the gang is going to have to know." Fisher said piping in. I looked at him. "The same thing happened to me last year. My parents started beating me. Fisher let me stay at his house while I healed up. He understands how the struggle is." She told me.
I looked back over at him. He had a worried look on his face. Then his phone beeped. "The guys will be here in a few minutes." He told us.
