Katelyn POV

"Katelyn? Katelyn!" I jumped. I looked over at my friend Allison. I let out a breath. My mind kept on wandering to how Kaylie's first day was going. It was a new school, she was a nervous kid, I'm just a tad worried.

"Sorry..." Allison rolled her eyes and turned back to the clothes on the hangar. I was fashion designer for a huge company, which I enjoyed very much. I helped her hang up the clothes that were gonna be showcased in the upcoming fashion show. "Alright, now we're done with that." Allison nodded.

"Let's clean the place up a bit." We put back rulers and scissors, other things that we had put out to work. "Eh, better than it was. I have to get going, Conner's awaitin'." I rolled my eyes. Her boyfriend Conner, he was very sweet. I waved bye to her and I picked up my purse. I didn't have to pick Kaylie up for another hour, so I just went home.

Open house at her school was today as soon as the students got out. I wanted to visit her math teacher. Kaylie takes math very seriously and she is so passionate, she wants to be a mathematician one day. I fully supported her dreams, even though I wasn't very good at math. I was decent, but not good.

I pulled up into my driveway. We lived in a typical suburban neighborhood. Trees along the side walks, brick houses on the street, nice and quiet. I went inside and threw my keys on to the counter. I let my hair out of a ponytail and sighed. It was truly a long day at work, and stressful, cutting the exact inches and all.

I one day hope to own my own fashion company, but I really like where I am now. I got an apple and ate it for a snack. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, not sure if that's actually true, but that's what everyone says.

Time flew by and her school day was almost over. I threw my apple core away and got into my car. I went to Kaylie's school, which wasn't too far from where we lived. Her school was nice and big, it looked like it had lots of funding going toward it. I wonder why, probably because it has the best education, especially math. I parked my car and got out. Luckily, I got here early because like 1,500 kids went to the school and that's a lot of people at open house.

I walked through the big glass doors and was in awe. Man I wish my school looked like this. It was truly amazing. I told Kaylie to meet me by the main office and we would go see her math teacher from there. I heard an electronic bell and kids started to flood out of their classrooms. Eventually, I saw Kaylie.

She smiled slightly as she came up and stood next to me. "Hey how was your first day?" I looked at her. She nodded.

"It was different, but a good different. Now let's go see my math teacher." She showed me where the classroom was. I walked to the end of the hall. The teacher surely had a nice view of the city, wow. I walked in and there he was, sitting on his desk, playing on his phone without a care in the world.

"Excuse me?" I said. He looked up and he looked like he did not wanna be here. I smiled. "I'm Kaylie's mother, Katelyn." I held my hand out. He looked down at it and looked up.

"Nice to meet you." He said, then paid attention to the phone again. Dick.

"I really like to meet Kaylie's math teachers because she has a gift in math like no other." He looked up and chuckled. What was this guy's problem? He stood up, basically towering over me. He had green eyes, I could tell there was gold specs, dirty blonde hair that was slicked back. Green plaid shirt with gray dress pants and slip on black sneakers. He was definitely young, my age probably.

"She has a gift you say?" I nodded, I saw Kaylie smiling out of the corner of my eye. "Well, I'll be the judge of that Ms. Tarver." He went around his desk and fiddled with papers. I raised my eyebrow and looked at him.

"She's been identified as gifted so...she's already kind of been judged." He looked at me, amused. This guy was full of shit.

"Well, the school system doesn't know math like I do." Like he does? Who was he, Albert Einstein?

"Like you do?"

"Yes, like I do." I have a feeling that Mr. Schmidt wasn't gonna be one of my favorite teachers.

"Kaylie, could you give us a second?" She nodded and went out. Mr. Schmidt smiled at me again.

"How do you know math?" He chuckled. Always something funny.

"That's a broad term, which you probably wouldn't understand even if I broke it down step by step." He probably was right, but he was an asshole. "I know math, I am a genius. This school would be in the dirt without me, it's a fact. I know things that lots of people don't, so I am a great judge of math Ms. Tarver."

"You probably don't even care about these kids." He shrugged.

"Not really, they're not my kids. I just teach them the way of the math I want them to learn. If you don't like that, you can always pull your daughter out of my class, but since you insist she has this "gift", I don't think that'd be such a good idea." Damn he was a smart ass.

"I am reporting you." He busted out laughing.

"Report me? Get in line, there are hundreds of people reporting me for, 'not caring about children's ability to learn'. I quote." I gave him a long hard glare.

"You know what? Have a good day Mr. Schmidt." He smirked.

"You too Ms. Tarver." He held out his hand. I grabbed his, my little hand being engulfed by his big one. I looked at our hands, then back at him. His face went from smirk to low key serious. "My name is Kendall actually, I don't like to do the whole Mr. Schmidt when it comes to parents." Kendall, that was a cute name. I looked at him, our hands still connected.

"My name is Katelyn." He smirked. Crap I already said that.

Our hands still connected.

Hope you liked it. Until Next Time.
