Enjoy.
Katelyn POV
"Have a good day at school sweetie." Kaylie waved at me as she got out the car. She went inside with a group of people. Aw they must be her friends, I'm so happy. I'm having a mom moment. I looked at the door for a few more moments. Then, something just blocked my view. More like something blonde with a blue plaid shirt blocked my view.
"Hi." Kendall said. I rolled my eyes.
"Hi Kendall." He smiled and looked behind the car, I guess to make sure no one was behind me.
"You about to go to work?" I nodded and looked at my watch. I better get going actually.
"As much as it brightens my life to talk to you," he chuckled, "I have to go, maybe I'll see you when I get home later." He nodded and hit the roof of my car twice.
"Bye, bye." He turned around and started walking into the school. Instead of driving off. I found myself watching him walk in, just taking time to look him over. He was wearing a blue plaid shirt, tucked into black dress pants and the gray skater sneakers. It seemed like that was his style.
He looked really good actually. I don't know why I'm admiring my daughter's math teacher, I really don't. He turned around to my surprised and waved. Like he knew I was sitting there the entire time looking him over. I blushed and waved.
He shook his head and walked in. He was probably gonna laugh his ass off when he got upstairs to his classroom. I just boosted his ego. I sighed and drove to the fashion studio I worked at. I went inside the building. It was on a floor of the building, the other floors had different companies on them. I went up on the elevator.
I got off and there wasn't really anyone working. I went into my office and Allison was there waiting for me. "Oh hey Allison."
"Hey! I was just waiting in your office, you have a nice office." I gave a thumbs up and went behind my desk. I had a nice amount of work to do. I started typing up schedules for fashion shows. "So...what're you doing?" I laughed, clearly she did all her work and had nothing better to do.
"Just typing up schedules for fashion shows, did you already do next month's?" She nodded slowly and played with her fingers.
"Yeah...which is the biggest reason I'm in your office. I have nothing to do..." Allison was always on top of everything. I really envied her, but my work ethic was good, but not as good as Allison's. "So, how's Kaylie enjoying high school?" I glanced over at her.
"Yeah, it seems like she really does like it."
"Any problems with teachers yet?" My mind went straight to Kendall. He wasn't as much of a problem, but he was definitely a teacher that stood out. He wasn't like the teachers she's had before.
"No not really, or at least not yet, but there is this one teacher, Mr. Schmidt..." She sat up a little bit.
"Continue."
"He's really cocky, doesn't really care about his students, and a bit of an asshole." She nodded. "He lives by us as well. He's been over a couple times." She raised her eyebrows.
"Over?"
"Yeah, I made him come over and help Kaylie, because if I asked nicely, he probably wasn't gonna do it, then the next time, I invited him over for coffee." She tilted her head.
"Do we like this so called Mr. Schmidt?" I stopped typing and turned to her.
"I don't know about liking, but he is very cute." She smiled. "He's about our age, maybe about a year or two younger." She nodded. She was fairly quiet, she was coming to her own conclusions.
"Interesting." I rolled my eyes.
Time flew by and it was finally time to pick up Kaylie. "Bye Allison."
"Bye, see you tomorrow." I waved as I got onto the elevator to go down. I got inside my car and drove to the school. I pulled up and Kaylie came out, she looked rather mad. She got into the car.
"Mom, you need to talk to Mr. Schmidt, because he is once again, out of his mind." What the hell did he do now?
"What happened?" She put her book bag down and sighed.
"He gave this test right? It was no problem, I did the test or whatever, then turned it in. Then one of my friends in the class said that he gave me a totally different test, it looked even more difficult than the ones the rest of the class got." I closed my eyes and fake smiled.
"Enough said. I'll be right back." Without another word, I went inside the school. Man, I have never been inside Kaylie's school so many times in a month. I guess we have Kendall to thank for that.
I went straight to his classroom. I got to his door, which was open and walked in. He was talking with another parent. "Yes." He was totally not listening to what the mom had to say to him. "Of course ma'am. I am an advocate for my students." Bullshit. I rolled my eyes. "Ok, you have a good day." She smiled at him and walked out. He shut the door and let out a sigh. Then gave me the dullest look. "My favorite person." He sat down on the desk. "What?"
I leaned against the wall. "Explain to me why, you gave Kaylie, a different test?" He chuckled.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Oh please.
I stood in front of him. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. Do not make me show your boss." He shrugged and went to the door and opened it.
"Be my guest." I crossed my arms.
"Why are you so sure that nothing will happen to you?" He tapped his chin, narrowed his eyes and looked up.
"Hmm, maybe because nothing will happen to me." He smiled. I walked closer to him.
"What do you have hanging over this school exactly." He waved me off and looked at his phone.
"I don't believe that's any of your business."
"Well clearly it's affecting the way you teach your students. Since nothing will happen to you, you don't try hard to make a difference in these kids' lives. Especially my kid's." He chuckled a bit.
"Here's one thing I'll tell you." I looked at him. I titled my head and gave a look.
"What's that?"
"Your kid is the actually the one I do care about." My breath hitched a bit. He actually cared about her. No, no that's not right, it was just more bullshit. He had that smug, cocky smirk on his face though. He seemed pretty confident in what he was saying, but he's pretty much always confident.
"You care about her?" He nodded.
"Yes."
"Why?" He shrugged and looked to the left down at the floor.
"She's basically the only one who really cares about this class and wants to be in it." I nodded slowly.
"So you're saying if they care about your class, then you'll care about them." He shook his head.
"No, not what I'm saying. There are probably kids that care about my class, but Kaylie," he shook his head, trying to find the right words, "she has this passion for my class like no other. Yeah, you're right, I did give her a different test, because I really didn't believe she was as gifted as you said she was. You were right, she was gifted just like me, even a little more. I just wanted see, that's all. Maybe I did wanna see her crash and burn, I'm a selfish asshole. I don't want even a five year old beating me at something."
I chuckled a bit. What he said was borderline sweet and a little dickish, but I'll take it. I didn't know he felt he had some kind of connection with Kaylie, him saying she was gifted like him in school. "I'm glad you feel that Kaylie has something special about her. I'm glad that you care about her education, even though it'd be great if you cared about the rest of your student's education as well."
He shrugged, "Don't push it." I put my hands up in defense. He chuckled and stood up, then looked at me, intensely. "So, would you like to come over for dinner at my house?"
Hope you liked it. Until Next Time.
