WARNING: THIS CHAPTER HAS SOME MILD SEXUAL IMAGERY. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
“You are free to go!” The doctor says to me, signing off my chart. “Your mother and I both agreed it would be best for you to see a therapist once a week for a month.” He handed me a business card. It had a phone number and an address for a Mr. Hall. Apparently, he was a teen suicide therapist. On the back was a number for a suicide help line.
I nodded my head and didn’t argue. I needed this. I would probably go longer than a month. I actually liked the idea of talking to someone who could help me and could relate to me. I mean, I love talking to Kai and Kayla, but they don’t deal with the same pain I do.
“Do you have any questions?” He asks. I shake my head and he nods. “Just check out at the front desk and you can go home. have a good day.”
“Thank you.” I say and he leaves. “I can’t wait to get home.”
“Are you really going to go to that therapist?” Kai asks.
“Yes.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. I need this.” I say, walking to the front desk. I honestly do. I walk up to the front desk, and tell them my name.
“Are you Mary’s daughter?” A young nurse asks. She tall, and has dirty blonde that flows to her shoulders elegantly. She is absolutely beautiful. She looks about 26 years old, give or take.
“Yep!”
“Your mother is amazing. You don’t know how many times she just comes to the rescue. She has saved a lot of lives. You must be Kai.” She turns and looks at him. I’m surprised she knows him. “Your mom talks about you two a lot. She said you two are inseparable. I see now that she right.” She giggles looking at Kai. Is she blushing? Oh no, she better not do that again. I’m sorry honey, but he is mine.
“Yeah. We have been best friends since fifth grade.” Kai explains. Why didn’t he say we were dating? What is up with him?
“Oh. “ She says hopefully. “Well, if you need anything, give me a call.” She hands him a piece of paper with her phone number on it. She is smiling like an idiot. The thing that baffles me the most is when Kai takes it.
“Thanks!” He says cheerfully. That was the breaking point. I grab his hand and start to pull him away.
“Come on. We have to talk about the wedding plans.” I yell loud enough for the nurse to hear. I turn and look at her, and she realizes what mistake she just made. I smile to myself, happy with the outcome.
“Not so fun watching your boyfriend talk to another girl, is it?” Kai says once we were in the parking lot. I stop. He did this on purpose?
“What?”
“Having the person you love take another person’s number, talk to them, act like you aren’t dating.” He smiles. He did do this on purpose!
“Is this about Legusy?” I ask.
“It’s always been about Legusy! He said he loved you, Araceli. I don’t want to have to compete for your love!” He shouts.
“You don't. You never had to! I have always loved you Kai. I can’t just change my feelings and direct them towards another person. The only person you have to compete with is Kayla.”
“I know. I’m just so scared I’m going to lose you. With Legusy, I thought that you were gone.” He steps closer, wrapping his arms around me, pulling me into a hug. “I don't ever want to lose you. And I almost did yesterday. I know I’m overprotective, and I’m trying not to be. But after this, I’m going to triple protective, okay? Just try to deal with me.” He says, hugging me.
