“'Bad News, Shmad News! At Least it's Not About . . . oh, Awesome'”

The Condo (Chicago, Illinois), living room, around . . . 8:49pm

This past week as been interesting to say the very least. The whole thing with John has been SUPER weird, considering the fact that he's no longer in my circle of friends and we had to tag together at a Mississippi houseshow last night. But as of now, I'm happily watching SmackDown while laying upside down on my couch with Oreo doing the same next to me.

“Hey, Kath, I think I—what the hell are you doing?” Alex said, looking at me like I'm an idiot. I shrugged.

“Watching SmackDown with Oreo.” I said, swinging my legs back and forth over the back of the couch.

“Aww, you're bonding!” he said, walking over to us. I've been warming up to the dog a lot lately. She's cute, what I can I say? He sat down on the couch next to me and leaned back. “So . . . you ready to say it?”

“Say what, Kiley?” I asked, eyes glued on an upside down Cody Rhodes, trying to figure out what in heaven's name he's doing.

“Sorry.” he said. My eyes shot from the TV to him and I rose an eyebrow.

“Why should I be saying sorry?” I asked, getting up and holding myself up on the edge of the couch with my hands.

“For being so mean to the dog,” he said, reaching over me and scratching Oreo's tummy, much to her joy. I couldn't help but smile as he did this, but then wiped off the smile and turned back to him.

“You know I don't traditionally like dogs. I've had a total of one dog in my life and I barely remember her; I think her name was Ethel,” I said, thinking back to my early childhood. “Yep, she was a Jack Russel.”

Alex playfully slapped my shoulder and smiled. “I'm serious, I think you hurt her feelings! See? She looks so sad!”

“Dude, she looks hungry, have you fed her yet today?” I asked, looking over at her. He shrugged.

“Should I have?” he asked. My mouth dropped and I flipped back over the couch and stood up.

“And you call yourself a dog person!” I scoffed as I walked to the kitchen. “Come here, Oreo!” Oreo loyally followed me over to her food bowl.

“Well, I'm sorry if I'm forgetful!” he said, following me. I shot him a glare after I filled Oreo's bowl with expensive as hell dog food.

“No, Alex, I'M forgetful,” I said, now washing my hands in the kitchen sink. “Remember when I forgot to do laundry for a week? We almost had to buy clothes from that creepy hobo down the street.”

“Okay, even though that was good, I'm WAY more forgetful than you are.” he said back.

“HA! Prove it!” I said, hopping up on the counter and sitting on it.

“Fine!” he yelled. “Remember last month when I forgot to—”

“Yeah, NEVER scare me like that again.” I said, shaking my head. He laughed and put his arm around me.
