“Recap”
The Condo (Los Angeles, California), living room, watching TV, around . . . 3pm
“You okay?” Kat asked me, sitting down on the couch next to me. I was currently upside down, eyes half closed, and trying to pay attention to Jersey Shore.
“What the hell do you think?” I asked her, as calmly as I could in my current state.
She tutted and stroked my arm. “We have a show tonight . . . you think you'll be able to make it?” she asked, looking at me thoughtfully.
“No, tell them I've died,” I said. “That'll provide them less of a chance for pity.”
Okay, maybe I could go back a few days.
A few days ago
“Tell me you're not still hiding this from him,” Alma pleaded after I managed to bring up the Chris situation whilst saying something that I thought was completely unrelated.
We were walking down a Los Angeles street at around 8am drinking coffee. Yeah, she moved to LA with Mike. She's managed to NOT say his name yet this morning . . . only a matter of time.
“That's not of your business!” I said. She smiled and sipped her coffee. “Besides, why shouldn't I keep it from him?”
“Because it's deceitful and wrong?” she said obviously. I just shrugged. “Listen, Kath, you've got to get it out sometime. The longer you wait the deeper a hole you dig for yourself.”
“Okay, now you just sound like the therapist counter girl at Dolce and Gabbana,” I said. She just laughed. “And when did you get so insightful and reasonable?”
“Since Mike and I took some couples counseling,” she said simply. I nodded. “So, when are you gonna tell him?”
“Never.” I said firmly.
“But you have to!” she persisted.
“No, actually, I don't!”
“But he's told you about Kelly!” she countered. I stopped dead in my tracks and she kept on walking obliviously.
“What about Kelly?” I asked, looking at her curiously. She stopped and closed her eyes.
“Ohhh, sh—” she started. I walked briskly up to her side and looked at her seriously.
“What about Kelly?” I repeated, this time shaking her shoulder. She looked at me ruefully and sighed. She then looked down at her coffee cup and ran her index finger around the edge of it.
“Well—” she began. That's all I needed.
Since we weren't far from the hotel, I started power walking down the sidewalk.
“Keep in mind you're not really one to judge here!” Alma said, trying to keep up with me.
“Don't care.” was all I said the rest of the way there.
Once I reached the hotel entrance, I ignored the friendly doorman and threw my coffee on the lobby floor, it making a spectacular splash once it hit the ground. Alma continuously told me to calm down whilst in the elevator, but I was too hell bent on ripping someone's head off their shoulders. Now, keep in mind I was AWARE that I did pretty much the same thing, but I'm not very rational when I'm angry.
