"So are you going to tell me why we're taking off on a Saturday to a different state?" Connor asks, glancing at me, after about an hour. I sigh.
"Honestly? I don't know. That's part of the reason. I don't understand anything anymore. When we moved here, the only people I had were my brothers and I was fine with that. People didn't like me and I didn't like them. I moved here and Talia took me under her wing. I was so grateful. My brothers and I were no longer as close, but I had friends so it didn't seem to matter. Then Lucas... The wreck... Blake... I can't make sense of anything anymore. I just need to get away from it all and clear my head for a couple days, I know that running from your problems doesn't help anything, but they'll still be there when I get back. At least when I get back I might have been able to figure a couple things out." I open up to him. I usually keep everything to myself, but Connor is the type of person who you just can't help, but open up to.
"A lot has happened, huh?" He chuckles, humorlessly.
"Too much." I agree. To think it's only been a couple of months, but it feels like a lot longer. My phone notifies me of a text so Iook down; Tyson. This can't be good.
Ty: I'm sorry, Kyla. I understand completely. I wish you would have talked to me about this first. I love you.
Ky: I couldn't take the chance.
Ty: I know.
Ky: Thank you.
"Everything okay?" Connor asks, glancing at me.
"Tyson does seem angry." I state, unsurely.
"That's good..." Connor says, confusion in his voice.
Drake: At least tell me where you're going and when you'll be home.
Kyla: Norman, Oklahoma. Monday night, probably. I know Monday, but not a clue on the time.
Drake: Just remember one thing: Numbing the pain for awhile will make it worse when you finally feel it. I love you.
"Yeah it is." I look up to Connor, a smile on my face.
~~~*~~~
"Hungry?" Connor asks, about the time I almost fall asleep.
"Yeah." I nod, tiredly. I check the time to see we have about two in a half, three hours left. 12:00 PM.
"Arby's good with you?" He asks.
"Absolutely." I answer, before he pulls in.
"What do you want?" He asks, pulling into a spot.
"Roast beef sandwich and curly fries." I reply easily, getting a twenty out of the bag Talia gave me.
"I got it." Connor says, holding his hand up. I just give him a look, causing him to cave. I smile, before he disappears out of the car and into the building.
"Thank you." I smile, as he hands me my amazing lunch.
"You're welcome." He chuckles, shaking his head.
"My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride." I sing as If Today Was Your Last Day comes on. Connor glances at me, amused."If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day." He sings, catching my attention.
