I'd left the room with everyone's eyes glued to me. Erin led me out of the dining room to where her 'instruments' were.
"Will you get Blake?" I asked her.
"Who?" Erin had a puzzled look on her face.
"Midnight," I corrected myself quickly.
"Yeah, of course," she ran off and returned a few minutes later with my favorite person.
"You called for me, love?" He began. I turned towards him. He hadn't changed from the last time I'd seen him, but the thoughts of last night about only being a pawn in his game had rattled me.
"Leave us," I cocked my head towards the door and Erin whisked herself out silently.
"Why did you want to meet with me, dear?" He folded his hands together. I finally answered after thinking about his little game for another few seconds.
"I want you to show the girls to me," I decided. A light had lit itself in his eyes.
"As you wish." He took my hand and dragged me down one of the darker hallways. Lit only by small, swaying lanterns, I could see how someone would go insane down here. A rattle echoed out behind us. The both of us turned around, our hands ready to kill.
"Who's there?" I shouted. Midnight glared into the dark.
"I'm sure it's just a rat, don't worry, sweetheart," Blake spat out the word rat and I wondered if I would ever know why. There were still so many things he hadn't told me, and I doubted he ever would.
The lanterns cast an eerie glow that crept up the walls. The shaky wailing of prisoners soon surrounded from all sides. It was sad, they probably had realized they weren't ever going home. I was scared to think about how many people Blake had brought here. No, I decided, to Midnight, they weren't people. They were stray dogs that had no place with other people. They deserved to be kept in the dark. I didn't know their crimes, but I assumed they deserved what they were getting. I stuck my nose up at them and continued down the corridor.
A few moments later, Midnight and I arrived at a separate ward, completely isolated from the cries and desperate screams. The entire space was consumed by darkness to the point where I couldn't see my fingers in front of my face.
As Blake opened the door, bright overhead lights clicked on, momentarily blinding me. As I blinked purple dots out of my vision, he closed the rusted bronze door behind us with a creaking clang. As I regained all of my sight, the room was revealed: dark red that looked like blood and mountains of dirt covered the floor. Mildew grew around the edges where the walls met the floor and pairs of dilapidated cuffs and foot shackles clung to the walls in random places. I found Portia and Robin crumpled at the base of the wall farthest from me, their ankles confined in chains. A small smile crept its way onto my face as I skipped over to their sleeping forms. I motioned for Blake to leave with a flick of my wrist. The door squealed as he left me with the Amethyst girls. I gazed at them for a minute before stomping on the stone as hard as I could with my boots.
"Wake up, sunshines!" I laughed loudly, enjoying their surprised jumps.
"Indigo? What's going -" she coughed.
They haven't had anything to drink. The voice appeared.
Oh hello again, Voice. I responded.
Let them have water. She urged me.
Fine. I gave in. I waved my hand, making two white ceramic bowls appear, which immediately were polluted by the filth of the room. I made some water fill the bowls then pushed them towards the girls. They drank quickly before speaking again. I stood in front of them with my hands folded and my muddy brown eyes watching them intently. When she finished, Robin looked up and regarded my now stiff posture, dark clothes, and expressionless face.
"What happened to you?" She stared at me with a hateful glare."Why did you bring us here?" Portia whispered.
"I want something from you," I answered her in the most monotonous voice I could.
"What?" Robin yelped.
"I don't have everything I want yet," I explained. She didn't take that well.
"And what exactly do you want?" She scoffed.
"Information... I want to know everything about Lucas Donner," I walked over to the tray and let my hand hover over a knife, anticipating their next words.
"We won't tell you anything," Portia stated simply, her once-bright eyes now lost and depressed.
"Oh, but you will." I froze them I place and switched their shackles for wall cuffs. They both hung limply as I let them be. I gazed at them, letting the dark blue filter cover my irises.
"Let the fun commence," I stared down at my reflection in the tray.
No! Don't do this. They're your friends! the Voice called out to me.
"Save it!" I screamed, earning confused glances from my prisoners.
"Who are you talking to?" Robin shot me an even more disturbed look than before. I waved away the question.
"Just the old version, the one you know. No big deal. Just a voice right here," I tapped the back of my skull. "Now back to you." She looked at me sadly.
"What did he do to you?" Portia shook her head.
"He saved me!" I exploded, " He took a little girl and made her into something greater!" By this point, all light had faded from their pupils.
"Now I'll ask once more politely," I let my normal eyes return for a moment. "Tell me everything you know about Lucas."
"No." I turned and smiled at them. I'd been hoping at least one of them would say that. I let the blue take over again and made the first cut of many on Portia's shackled arm. She yelped and I watched the trail the bright red liquid left on her tan skin. I wiped the blood off (because I'm a torturer, I'm not unsanitary) and made the next slice on the side of Robin's cheek. I continued cutting them until they were bawling at the pain. I laughed at their screams. This was going to be fun.
