Chapter 6

Jolene's P.O.V.

We finally stopped laughing and managed to put our chairs back. "So we have to go find where the squid's HQ is." Sky said.

"That may take a while." Olivia agreed.

"Nah! I already know where that is!" I piped up. In return they gave me looks like I was crazy. "Well unlike the kids here in town, I grew up with very few human friends, so I hung out with the animals and they taught me things. One of the squids I knew gave me a map of a very large area, on it, it pointed out where the squid base was. They were panicked, and told me to hide it where nobody would ever find it. They were killed not long after that by some of the other squids." I explained.

"Great! Let's go get it!" Sky exclaimed.

"One small problem." I said.

"Yeah?" They both asked at the same time.

"I hid the map in the nether." I told them, glancing at Olivia as I did so. "Also the nether portal is quite a distance from here. I have another map on just how to get to the portal. It's at my home tho."

"Well let's go get it!" Sky declared.

"What about-" I started to ask.

"I'll be fine, as long as we don't stay in there for to long." Olivia cut in.

"Then it's settled! We shall go get the guys back!" Sky exclaimed.

"After we get the map from the nether." Olivia added.

"After we get the map from my home." I commented.

"Let's go!" Sky yelled running out of the room.

"We might want to hurry and catch up before he realizes he doesn't know where I live." I smiled.

"And before he gets startled." Olivia laughed. We both laughed running out of the room after Sky.

We found him in the doorway to the room I was staying in. "Umm. That's not where I live you know." I said. Sky jumped, and turned around brushing off his shirt.

"I knew that." He muttered. I smiled. Then I remembered that, while I had everything I had brought into town with me, they most likely had their stuff in their rooms.

"You might want to go get your stuff." I told them.

"No problem! It's already with our horses!" Olivia said excitedly. I didn't own a horse, but I did know one that loved to go on adventures. Maybe they would let me ride them, or carry my stuff for me.

"Then what are we waiting for?" I smiled.

They ran down to the stables while I ran to the main gate of the town to wait for them.

"What took you so long?" I asked when they finally got to the gate.

"You didn't say which gate." Sky defended himself.

"You do know there's only 4 gates, and people usually only use this one. The farmers are the people who usually use the other gates." I replied.

"Oh." Sky muttered. I stifled a laugh. He glowered at me, and I coughed. A fake cough, but it sounded real enough.

"So... Shall we go?" I asked.

"Ya!" Olivia enthusiastically replied.

With that we started down the main path. We passed a few people, but not many. They only looked at Sky and Olivia, not me. That's when I remembered that they were royalty. You may think it's impossible to forget something that important, but I did. To those people I probably looked like a guard escorting them.

We reach the spot to turn off quickly since I wasn't that far away from the town. I could see my house through the trees quiet easily, but looking back at Olivia and Sky they had no idea where it was. My house was made out of logs for a reason. The door somehow fit in with everything else, nobody ever saw it, but then again, nobody ever looked for my home anyways.

Walking through the door I declared, "It isn't much, but it's home!" I was proud of this place, I had built it all by myself. I had made the bed, chest, and bedside table. The mirror I had found broken in alley. There wasn't that much else to my home. A few personal belongings and that was it really. "I'll grab the map, and a few personal belongings and we can be off." I told them. They nodded, and I walked over to my bed.

I crouched down and shimmied underneath. I pulled a plank loose and stuck my hand in the hole. I moved it around slowly until I felt the paper. I quickly pulled my hand out and put the plank back. I did my best to get out from under my bed quickly.

When I got out I looked down to see I was covered in dust bunnies. I shook them off and held the map in the air triumphantly. "Now let me go see if I can get a horse." I told them.

I didn't really have to run far to find her. "Hi Star!" I called. She turned her head, and I saw the white star on her forehead. If you can't guess, that's how she got her name. Well, that and the fact that she has small white spots all over her that looked like the night sky.

"Jolene!" She neighed happily.

"I've got an adventure for us!" I told her.

"Yay!" She reared up on her hind legs as she said that.

"There's just one condition." I explained.

"What?" She asked.

"You have to carry a few of my things. There isn't that much so it shouldn't be a problem!" I said.

"Deal!" She cried.

"Come on! Let's go!" I yelled over my shoulder as I ran back to my house.

I ran inside and told Olivia and Sky to go to their horses. They got up and walked out the door, and I grabbed a small set of saddle bags, and put my few belongings in the one side. I put some cooked food in the other one along which some hay for the horses. Better safe then sorry.

I walked back out the door to see Star giving Sky and Olivia the evil eye. "Oh back down Star! They're friends!" She backed down only after I put my hand on her shoulder.

I slug the saddle bags over her back and looked at the map. "We'll have to head north to the mountains, and judging by the position of the sun we should make it there by tomorrow afternoon!" I told them. "I'll be flying to watch the road ahead of us. Star here will carry my stuff, so you guys might want to get along."

With that we walked back to the road and I let my wings and tail appear. I jumped up and flapped my wings. It felt good to use them again.
