Chapter 26
Seto's P.O.V.
"The story control should be somewhere around here!" Skalicia declared as we appeared in a forest. "I couldn't get straight there because I have you with me, but we should be close."
I looked around before beginning to walk in a random direction. I head no idea where we were or what we were looking for, but I decided trying to help would be better than doing nothing at all.
I thought I saw a clearing up ahead, so I walked towards that. However, I managed to trip on some as I made my way over to the edge of the tree line.
I rolled over and looked to see what I had tripped on. To my surprise, there was a stump with a couple of logs cut in half around it. It kind of looked like a crude sort of table.
To the left of it, there was a small hut of sorts that blended right into the trees. If it weren't for the fact that I had tripped, I probably would have never noticed it.
Skalicia teleported next to me as I just finished standing back up. She startled me and I had almost fallen back over. "Of coarse!" Skalicia exclaimed. "Where better to hide the Story Control then at the place where the story began!"
"How did our story begin here?" I murmured as Skalicia went into the hut.
As I entered the hut, Skalicia was moving around between objects, muttering things to herself. I looked around the small one roomed building. I wonder who belonged it. Whoever it was wasn't wealthy or didn't expect much company, that much was obvious by the fact that there was only enough stuff for one person in here. If people visited, they'd probably stay outside around that stump.
I walked over to the mirror in the corner. It looked like it had once been badly broken and someone tried to piece it together with only the pieces that they could find. I carefully wiped off the heavy layer of dust. This place almost seemed like it was some old neglected place, not some place for a story to beginning. As I looked into the mirror, I saw how pathetic I looked. My clothes were messier that they would normally look (even after running around and doing all my magic), my hair looked like a bird had tried to nest in it, my eyes looked sunken as my face gave away the fact that I had gotten little sleep in that horrible prison.
I turned around to see Skalicia staring down at the broken drawer on an old looking wooden desk. She was sitting on a matching old looking, also wooden, chair. They were simple looking and the desk had an assortment of papers, books and quills, along with an empty pot of ink.
I decided to sit down on the bed in the room. To my surprise, the mattress felt thin, hard, and lumpy. It wasn't much better than sleeping on the floor, but I guess it was kind of an improvement, especially when it would get cold. As I took another look around the hut, I realized there was no place for a fire to go. The only things in here that would give off heat would be the torches that Skalicia had lit when she got in here.
"Hey Seto do you mind moving the bed?" Skalicia asked suddenly. I got up and used some of my magic to move the bed out of the corner. "Thanks." This time her voice was a little muffled. I turned and looked at her to see that she was reaching her arm into the hole that was where a hole because of the broken drawer. Her muffled voice was probably because she was trying to stare through the hole and see what she was doing.
"What are you-" I was cut off by the sounds of a piston moving coming from behind me. I turned around in confusion. There was now a block missing in the corner, and and eriee blue light emanating from the hole.
"There!" Skalicia exclaimed happily.
I looked back at her. "What did you do?"
"I pushed a button that opened the passage to the Story Control." She said simply. "Now come on! We only have a limited amount of time before the thing closes and locks itself for an hour. And I'm not sure if that means an hour for us, or if it's for an hour if the story was going. If the second one's true then we'll be stuck out here until the author decides to save us."
Without another word, she jumped into the hole without looking. I guess there's no choice but to follow her. So I walked up to the hole. To my relief, there was some sort of metal ladder. I lowered myself down carefully, but also quickly, not wanting to be crushed.
Just as I got down a little ways past where the block had been, the piston suddenly shot the block towards where my head had been not too long before. I looked at the block in slight terror, if I had been much slower, my head would have been crushed. I sighed before continuing my way down the slick rungs of the ladder.
When I got down to the bottom of the ladder, I turned around to see Skalicia standing in front of a large pain of glass that was somehow emitting light. "What is that?" I asked.
"Glad you finally decided to join me." I heard the sarcasm in Skalicia's voice. She turned around to look at me, her face showing that she was ready to get down to business. "This is a computer monitor. Its way larger than normal, by still serves the same purpose. This computer hooks straight into this story and if I want I can also get into other stories written by the author. For now I'm just going to focus on making this story unfreeze."
"So our world isn't the only one created by this 'author' person?" I asked.
"No, but it is one of the few that she's shared with other people." Skalicia replied. "I'm not sure if you'll stay here or return to your cell when I turn the story back on, but I think you'll keep your memories of what happened here."
"You think?"
"Well I've never done this before so it's all hypothetical stuff we're doing here."
"Well since I might not remember, do you mind telling me how our story began in the shack upstairs?"
"That's where Jolene lived for most of her life, and the story all began with her in her home."
I just stared at her. "Are you serious?" I asked.
"Yup!" Skalicia said as she slammed her fist down on the arrangement in front of the 'monitor' thing. She looked up at me. "It should take a little while to reset, but in the mean time..."
I looked at Skalicia like she was crazy as she pulled her fist back like she was ready something. Then she began to run towards me. As she ran, her fist lit on fire.
"W-what?" I took a step back. My magic wasn't working against her and I was beginning to panic.
Just as she got within striking distance, Skalicia jumped as I flinched. However, she jumped over my head.
I looked up in time to see her punching a bat out of the air. It squeaked as her fiery fist killed it in one shot. "Take that demon-bird!" She yelled. That other bat in the room squeaked in surprise and fear. "Don't worry Garry, I won't hurt you."
Then my vision cut out. I heard Skalicia yell out in surprise as I felt myself fall to the ground. The thump of my body hitting the floor was the last thing I heard.

You can blame my writer's block that I've had for like ever for the lack of updates. I'm sorry about that by the way. Also, I've been sick recently and my mind wandered alot so that's where this came from. I guess being sick isn't completely bad afterall... Now let's hope that writer's block doesn't take hold of me again.
