Scissors

Riley

I got up EXTRA early today, I need to look STUNNING today. I wake up with a huge curtain of hair over my face.

Ugh.

I forgot about this... my HAIR.

My hair is the bane of my existence.

Sometime I just want to shave it.

Like REALLY wanna shave it.

I really should cut it one day, it's way too long.

Hey

You know what, why don't I just do it myself?

Like now?

Yep.

Scissors?

I walked to the kitchen to look for them. I opened one of the drawers and saw something I never thought I'd see for a long time.

My book.

The book I was reading when I first met Chance...

I don't remember giving it to him...

He kept it.

I look through other stuff in the drawer, signed baseballs, baby picture, a locket, some battered up diary.

These are things that mean something to Chance... and my book was there?

Does that mean I mean something to him?

If I do... IF

Why did he leave?

Chance

Hanging out with Stacy all day...

is a nightmare

When I was living at home I probably saw her at least once a week

THAT I could bear

But now, she's a bit.. err

I go to bed a little early so I can get away from her for a while but I guess I shouldn't have done that because I can't sleep and my head starts to wander.

And when it starts to wonder, I can't help but think of Ruth.

I wonder how she is, I look at the time and see that is just past ten in the evening. She's definitely asleep by now.

Maybe I could just pop in, see how the house is doing.

I peek out of the bedroom and see Stacy watching something on TV. Damn it.

O well, it's worth a shot.

I hastily get dressed and start to leave.

"Babe, what are you doing?"

Well, I took the shot. And now I'm dead.

"Just out, seeing a friend."

"Don't be out too long, I hate being alone at night."

"Sure thing."

Then I left, during the whole car ride I was going over what I was going to say.

"Hey Ruth, no I just came by to see how everything's doing because I'm just creepy like that. It all seems fine, okay, bye."

Dude

I really should turn back but at the same time I don't want to.

=========================================================

I arrive at the apartment and unlock the door, all the lights are on... I guess she's not asleep?

In the kitchen, my private drawer is open with Ruth's book lying on the counter. She's been through it...

Pssh, why should I care?

I go into the hallway and see a blanket on the sofa. I've never seen it before so it must be one of Ruth's. As I see more and more of the apartment, it looks more like Ruth's house than ever. As if nobody else has ever lived here.

It looks nice.

I peek through the door of my bedroom, a few things have been moved around. So, she's been in here. Wait, is she planning on changing something? What if someone else is moving in?

I haven't seen Ruth yet so my best bet is that she's in her bedroom reading or something. I'm sure she would've heard me and have come out.

I knock on her bedroom door and nothing happens. Maybe she's not even here, and just left all the lights on? Well, it's her electricity bill.

I open the door and breath in the wave of lavender that washes over me. Feels like home. I look around and inspect her room. Taking in the college books, the bright colours, clothes scattered across the floor. And...

her

There she is, sleeping soundly

There she is, sleeping soundly. Like an angel. She must've fell asleep unexpectedly as she's still wearing her clothes.

It's at that moment of time I stare at Ruth that I question myself.

Did I make a mistake coming here?

Or did I make a mistake leaving her?
