I'm Ruth.
I've never said that to anyone before.
Well, I've never said anything to anyone before.
You guessed it
I'm mute
Nobody's ever been able to read me
Nobody... until him...
My child. I'm not sure if it's a girl or boy When it was born. Where Brianna even lives.
Her parents made sure of that.
They moved out of the town the second Brianna's stomach started getting bigger.
That was the worst memory I've ever had. Because I feel so ashamed of myself and because I must've ruined Brianna's life. And she was the sweetest girl. I wish I could've made it better, I didn't even get a chance to apologize.
"No, Stacy. I think we should break up..." I look down at the table again
But she doesn't say anything. There's just silence. I quickly look up again and spot her staring at me.
"Whatever. Go back to Ruth. I know you miss her."
She gives me a sad smile and then just leaves.
She was much more humble about that than I thought.
I can't keep on making girls sad, I need to go and talk to her.
I knock on her bedroom door and she opens it.
"Look, Stacy, I'm sorry. I really am."
"It's fine. I don't think I like you in that way anymore anyway too. I've been getting really close to Max and I think he likes me as well." Her sad smile then turns into a happy smile
"That's awesome, I'm happy for you Stacy." I give her a friendly hug then check the time.
Gotta get to school.
======================================
At school, I can hardly concentrate. All day I'm thinking about how I'm supposed to apologize to Ruth. I want her back in my life.
You know what, I'll just wing it. Be honest and genuine.
After school, I drive over to Ruth's school and wait outside for her to come out.
Ruth
You know what, school today wasn't that bad.
Stacy backed off.
Riley finally stopped talking about Chance.
But I still felt empty, like my day won't be fulfilled unless I see that smug face again waiting for me in his scratchy old car.
Riley says bye to me as she leaves me at the school gates. I start to walk towards my car until I see someone leaning against it. I can't see his face but it's definitely a boy. And then, he looks up.

Chance.
He seems me and his face suddenly changes. From neutral to serious. He marches towards me, almost angrily. When he's close enough that I can smell his Honey Oats from this morning.
Chance
When I'm so close I can see the tiny flecks of green in her blue eyes. I gently place my hand on the side of her face and my other on her back as I smash my lips against hers and my whole world fell away. It was slow and soft, comforting in ways that words would never be. My hand rested below her ear, my thumb caressing her cheek as our breaths mingled. My heart skipped a beat when she ran her fingers down my spine, pulling me closer until there was no space left between us and I could feel the beating of her heart against my chest. She moved her lips in sync with mine, I didn't expect myself to do this. Or her. She... she might actually like me too?
We pulled away and I inspect her face, it returned to the usual poker face. We didn't move out of the position we were in. I don't know why but I started smiling really hard. I slid out of our position and grabbed her car keys from her pocket. She didn't keep her eyes off of me when I went into her car and started the engine.
