The days were getting shorter. Rose and I were walking home from dinner as the sky got darker, purples and reds painting the sky with beautiful strokes.
"Why'd you kiss me last night?" Rose asked bluntly.

"Because I like you." I lied. Sure, I liked Rose but I had kissed her because I wanted to make Ella jealous.

"Jaxon..." Rose said. "You don't like me, I know that, you like Ella..."

I closed my eyes. "No Rose I like you; I cross my heart and hope to die." I wouldn't die luckily. I did like Rose, but not the way I did Ella.

Rose smiled, closing her eyes and sighing in relief. She had started liking me a year ago, and still did, no matter how many times I had broken her heart. Rose was an amazing friend and I did want to be with her... I just needed to get over Ella. "I promise I'm over Ella." I insured her, because I was, from now on, I was over Ella. I stopped Rose and grabbed her hands. "I promise." I repeated, our lips touched and the spark ignited into an ember.

"I like you too." Rose told me pulling away from me. "I always will." She touched her for head to mine and I smiled. As gold, orange, and red leaves fell from the sky, sun cascaded down from the heavens lighting up the place Rose and I were standing.

I walked into my rooms to feel curiosity hit me. "Elise?" I stammered. "What are you doing in my room?"

"Look Jaxon." Elise said sternly. "You're one of my best friends."

"Your one of my best friends too..." I told her.

"And I don't want you to be mad at me, and I don't want to be mad at you. So can we make up." Elise questioned.

"Yes." I smiled. Elise got up and hugged me.

"But what is with you and John?" She asked me.

"He- he... stole something form me."
"Not something." Elise whispered. "Someone."

"Why do you have to be so smart?" I said rolling my eyes laughing. "And you are right. He stole someone from me; buts its not just that..."
"Something with the Gifted Six?" Elise questioned.

"Leave before you figure out all my problems." I laugh pointing at the door. Elise walked away laughing nd headed for her room.

I closed my doors and sat down at my desk. I needed to go through what John was talking about, and who he was talking too. Then I realized something. What ever John needed to do to Ella, Brennen, Denen, Aira, Haley, and I would save his mother, and if he didn't; who knew what would happen to her.

Realizing I needed to confer with the Gifted Six I texted everyone to meet up in front of the lake:

Meet up at lake ASAP, EMERGENCY!!!

Text bubbles immediately popped up.

Coming. Aira responded.

I grabbed my sweater and headed out of the door. It was dark now. Stars lit up the sky twinkling in the darkness. Remembering, that something so small was so big made laugh. We were so small compared to them, yet we called ourselves the center of the universe, the cosmos.

As I neared the lake Fire bugs lit up the trees. Fire bugs were one of the few magical creatures that lived in this realm. They were calmingly confused as Fire fly's but they actually had fire on their small whip like tales.

As I neared everyone else I noticed their serious faces. "What is it?" Ella asked crossing her arms.

"John!" I started to explain.

"Enough!" Ella yelled. "We get that you don't like him, but some of us do, and for your information he is very kind."
"Its not that!" I continued. "I followed him last night. Into the forest. He was talking to someone and they said that if John doesn't do something to us, his mother wouldn't get some sort of cure."

"What?" Aira asked stunned. "Is he actually working for someone bad?"

"I don't know."

"How do we know your telling the truth?" Ella demanded.

"Look, just because I hate your boyfriend doesn't mean you have to keep attacking and saying I'm this evil person Ella."

"Maybe we should go..." Brennen suggested.

"No!" I snapped. "I've had enough of you guy not believing me! John isn't who he says he is!"

"I'm with Jaxon." Haley said suddenly.

"Thank you." I smiled.

"Prove it." Ella glared.

"I will." I told them. "I will."

Weeks passed and soon it was December. Duels had been stopped until January and rain pored down almost every day. The trees were now just bones, wet leaves left underneath them. The winter dance was coming up which meant that drama would be starting. I wanted desperately to talk to James about Sarah and him but we had still barely talked since the argument.

I desperately wanted to have my old friends, but I knew that until I could prove that John wasn't who he said he was.
