The Next Step:Jiley's story

Honesty

"Alright Piper, that was pretty good but you need to hold your end for a bit longer." I tell Piper who has just performed her solo for nationals, it's really good, I'm impressed, she turns to me nods and then re does the last eight counts holding her end for longer "Alright, that was pretty perfect, just go and cool down and we'll work on it again tomorrow." I tell her before moving on to Noah who has the male solo and had been warming up in the corner. "Noah, I want to see your solo fully once and then we can work on it." I instruct

"Alright, can you put the music on?" he asks me, I nod and then find the song he wants, Empire, and then press play, Noah starts dancing and I'm blown away I knew Noah was a great dancer but this solo is so powerful and it I'm genuinely in shock, I thought I knew all of A-troupe's ability but apparently Noah is far better that I ever thought. He just keeps on dancing and I can't help thinking about how even as studio head I don't know how good some of A-troupe is. Finally the music stops and he stands there, out of breath, he looks at me to see what I thought of it and I quickly snap out of my trance like state.

"Noah, that was amazing, when did you become so good?" I ask him, he looks at me confused and then shrugs before replying

"I don't know." he says, clearly confused. I sigh and then signal for him to take a seat on the studio floor, I sit down with him and try to figure out what I'm about to say

"Noah, I know this is going to sound really strange but can you tell be everything that has happened between Josh going into hospital and now." I say trying to find out just how much everybody has changed, he looks at me confused and then nods his head

"Ermm, well I don't know, everybody's got better, I guess." he says sound unsure, I nod my head and look down at my hands

"Noah, will you tell me the truth?" I ask him, out of the corner of my eye I see him nod so I carry on "Do you think I'm uncommitted to being studio head because of my kids and do you think A-troupe is being effected by me spending a lot of time in the hospital?" I ask him not looking up once, the studio is silent for a few seconds before he replies

"No, the studio's doing fine, A-troupe is doing fine and nobody's doing any worse at the studio because of it and even if we were it wouldn't be a big problem because right now Josh needs you and James so don't change how much time you spend in the hospital." he tells me, sounding very certain. It's a huge relief to hear that people in A-troupe don't think I'm uncommitted to the studio. Then I look up to see Noah with a huge smirk across his face

"what's the smirk about?" I ask him in a teasing voice

"Just remembering how wonderful of a time Richellle and I had last night and how I can't wait to-" 

"Noah, didn't need to hear it." I say jokingly, he laughs a bit

"we just take after Jiley." he says teasing me so I lightly hit him, he smiles and then stands up again "should we work on the solo again?" he asks, I nod and then put the music on.
