"Chres." I groan.
"Hmm?" He hums, half asleep.
"I think it's time."
"No, it's Saturday, we don't have to be up until nine." He tells me, wrapping his arms tighter around me.
"No, the baby is coming."
"Oh." He quickly gets up. He gets the bags, "Do you need more clothes?"
"No, my water hasn't broken. But the contracts are only ten minutes apart now." I groan.
He helps me up, leading me to the steps. He takes the bags down first, then picks me up and carries me, all the way to the car. He lays my seat back some and sits me in it. He puts the bags in the back, then runs inside. He comes out a few minutes later with the keys.
"Sorry, I was telling your grandparents. They said they love you and good luck."
"Okay, babe." I breathe, preparing for my next contraction.
"I'm gonna speed." He announces, pulling me out of the driveway. He goes seventy all the way to the hospital. "I'll get the bags later."
He carries me inside, asking for some help.
Santo carries me up to a room, then the doctors set up.
They hook me up to some machines and put on a breathing mask while Santo gets his scrubs on. The doctors are also doing everything they can to keep me alive.
Santo prays with me before we start. I need faith to get me through this, I need help. This is beyond me.
"Alright, you're only half way dilated, so we'll wait about thirty minutes for the epidural, then we'll get started as soon as we can. Leave everything on." The doctor tells me.
Santo keeps his hand in mine the whole time. "You think you're gonna be able to do it?"
"Yes, I'm gonna try my hardest." I tell him.
He lifts my hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to it. "I know you don't want to hear this, but I really can't go on without you."
"Chres-"
"The couple months you were gone were the hardest months of my life. How do you expect me to spend the rest of my life without you? I can't do it." He tears up.
"You have to. Think about the kids." I sigh.
He shakes his head, putting it down on the bed beside me. I run my hand through his hair. "I can't do it."
"Baby, I told you I'm always gonna be there with you. Don't do anything outrageous." I tell him.
"I wouldn't do that. But I'm scared I'll fall off." He admits. "I can't do life without you, Jazmine. I know we have disagreements sometimes, but I don't know what to do without you. Even when you wake me up at two in the morning for ice cream." I giggle a little and he looks up at me. "I wouldn't have it any other way. I love you so much."
What most people don't realize is, Santo has been there my entire life. I've been there all of his life except two years. From the time I was born, he's been around. There are picture of him, Ray, Jacob and Craig holding me when I came home. They had their parents beside them, but still, we've all been together that long.
Santo was there when I was bullied, when I was depressed, for everything. He cared when even my own parents didn't. He's always protected me. He's always been there. I've always been there for him.
He was there for me when I found out I had asthma. He was the first guy to ever tell me he loves me, I was the first girl that told him I love him. He was my first boyfriend, my first kiss, my first love, my first everything. I was his first everything. The first time we dated, that was the first relationship both of us had. We dated a few other people before we got back together, but we came back together, we never stopped being best friends.
