Chapter Twenty - Ryan and Skylar

"I wanna heal, I wanna feel, what I thought was never real. I wanna let go of the pain I felt so long. I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I'm close to something real. I wanna find something I wanted all along. Somewhere I belong."

-Linkin Park, Somewhere I Belong

Ryan

I glanced down at Skye, her head on my chest, and sighed.

Her hand rested on my chest, her scarred skin touching my own. Her right hand held the ring I got her, the infinity ring, and her left hand held another ring.

Her dad's wedding band.

My thoughts traveled back to last night and I closed my eyes. It hurt, so much, to listen to her cry and scream. It was as if someone took a branding iron to my chest. But it only got worse.

When Skylar told me everything, it broke my heart.

She went through so much at such a young age, and she didn't have time to cope. She was shoved into maturing and taking care of herself, that she didn't have time to grieve for her father.

I wanted to take away all of her heartache and pain away so badly, but I couldn't. And that's what hurt the most. Knowing.

It hurt knowing that I couldn't help her. She didn't deserve any of this pain, but she was stuck with it anyway. It hurt knowing that, because of our pasts and our fears, we would never be together.

Jesus, I'm turning into such a girl.

As if Skylar could sense my thoughts, she stirred in her sleep, and her eyes fluttered open. I smiled and she smiled back, and all of my previous thoughts were lost.

Skylar

The morning light streamed through my bedroom window, and I shifted so not as much light hit me.

My eyes snapped open at the sense of someone watching me, and I was met with Ryan's intense stare. He smiled his perfect white smile, and I smiled back. "Good morning Cupcake."

I rolled my eyes but then closed them, "Morning." I yawned.

We laid in a comfortable silence for a few minutes until I stretched. His leg brushed against mine, and I felt a blush take over my cheeks. I remembered that last night after the concert, I slept in only a shirt.

Remember! He's seen you naked!

My thoughts traveled back to last night, waking him and forcing him to stay with me and comfort me. I opened my eyes and met Ryan's stare. "I'm sorry."

His eyebrows rose in confusion, "Sorry for what?"

I sighed and looked out the window in embarrassment. "For last night."

Ryan grabbed my chin and lightly made me look at him. "Skye, it's fine. you can't help it." I bit my lip and blushed. What did I do to deserve a friend like Ryan? "You know, I'm here. Whenever you need me. To talk or you just need a shoulder to cry on. I'm here for you Skylar."

I nodded and smiled at him, "Thank you."

He shrugged, "No problem." He kissed my forehead, and my heart rate increased to an unhealthy pace and I closed my eyes.

He stood up, leaving my bed cold and lonely, and faced me, "What do you want for breakfast?"

I shrugged and stood up. "I don't know." I answered with my back to him, "What do we have?" When I turned back to Ryan, my breath caught in my throat.
