Chapter Twenty-Eight - Skylar and Ryan

"The unexpected things in life are often the most interesting and can impact us greatly."

Skylar

There was no one to help me get ready this time.

I had to straighten my own hair, paint my own nails (Which I had given up on after the fifth failed attempt), and put on my own dress.

Way too much work for a party.

After slipping on my pair of flats and my rings, I put my hand on the door handle and took in a deep breath. And then I opened the door.

Ryan stood in the hallway, leaning against the wall in front of my door. His eyes snapped up to meet mine and he smiled as his eyes ran over my black dress that flowed to just under my knees, practically undressing me with his eyes. And that allowed me to run my eyes over his black-tux clad body. His tie was undone again, and his hair was its usual tossed up mess.

Is it weird that my mouth watered?

My mind immediately went back to Luke's wedding weeks ago, and how much has changed since then.

"Here, let me take care of that." He grabbed the necklace from my hands and I spun around, pulling my hair out of the way so he could click it. After doing so, his hands remained on my shoulders and his lips trailed down to the crook between my neck and my shoulder, placing a light kiss there.

I turned around again and ran my hands up Ryan's chest to his tie, tying it again just like that last time. My eyes met his and he smiled, leaning down and planting a gentle kiss on my lips.

I sighed at how perfectly our lips moved together and wrapped my arms around his neck. He pushed me back against the wall lightly and his hands dropped to my hips. After a minute, I pulled away and he kissed along my jaw to my ear.

"I say we just stay here and have our own party."

I rolled my eyes and pushed on his chest lightly, making him back away from me slightly. And he chuckled, "No, Ryan. We need to go, or your mom will castrate you."

Ryan rolled his eyes and sighed "Fine."

I chuckled and walked toward the living room, "Come on, we need to leave if we're going to catch the ferry."

Ryan grumbled something under his breath and grabbed my keys as I grabbed the sweater Chloe let me borrow.

"Ready?"

I nodded and we walked out the door and to my car. When I was about to get in, Ryan grabbed my wrist, making me turn back and look at him.

He smiled and brushed his thumb over the back of my hand, "You look beautiful by the way."

I blushed again. I swear, Ryan has made me blush more times in the past month than I have in my entire life. time a hundred.

Through my lashes, I looked up at him and smiled, "And you look beautiful too."

When we arrived at the party, we had gone through nearly an hour of driving and a half hour ferry ride. I was ready to get out of the damn car and get some fresh air.

Ryan squeezed my hand as we rode up the elevator and I glanced over at him, "Are you ready to meet my family?"

I smiled and sighed, "I suppose so."
