Chapter Thirty-Nine - Ryan and Skylar
"For some reason I believed that if you fell in love it was a guaranteed thing that your path would cross with his, and I never wondered how it would feel to fall in love with a man whose future just couldn't include you."

"God dammit Skylar!" I walked out of my room with Skylar's shirt balled into my fist and into the living room. When I came into the living room, she was sitting on the couch, reading some magazine, "Can you please pick up your shit!" I threw the shirt at her and when it hit her, she glared at me, "It's all over our room."
"Well I'm sorry that you didn't really care where our clothes ended up last night."
I rolled my eyes, "Just pick up the goddamn clothes, Skylar."
Her eyes narrowed and she closed the magazine, throwing it on the coffee table, "What crawled up your ass and died?"
My eyes narrowed also and I crossed my arms over my chest, "Nothing. I would just like to be able to walk into my room without stepping on your stupid clothes."
"It's half your room!" she snapped as she stood from the couch, "I clean up all your shit all the time, why can't you do the same for me!?"
"Obviously the room isn't half mine! All your shit takes up the entire room! I don't have any space to breathe in there!" Okay, maybe I was exagerating a little bit, but I was trying to prove a point.
Skylar walked right in front of me and crossed her arms over her chest and I had to fight back the comment of her looking sexy when she's pissed. "Well, if I'm such a burdden, maybe I should just leave!"
"Maybe you should."
Her voice dropped to barely over a whisper; "Say the word."
I opened my mouth to tell her to leave, but then I realized exactly what I was doing; Skylar was leaving in two days. I most definitely didn't want to spend her last few days here without her by my side.
I sighed and wrapped my arms around her waist which took her by surprise. "No. Don't leave." my eyes met hers and I saw them soften slightly, "Please." I whispered.
She sighed and wrapped her arms around my neck. My forehead leaned against hers lightly and our eyes closed, "I'm sorry." I sighed, "That was stupid. We were fighting over how much room you took up in our bedroom. I'm an asshole."
Were we really fighting about that?
Of course not.
Skylar sighed, "Yeah, you kind of are." I could hear the smirk in her voice and my eyes snapped open to meet hers, "Thanks." I groaned.
She chuckled and tightened her hold on me so her body pressed into mine further. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding...only most of the time."
I couldn't help but laugh and lean down to kiss her. She sighed and after a minute, pulled away. Her eyes remained closed and she bit her lip, "Ryan, you know I love you, right?"
My hold tightened around her waist and my heart sped up. I brushed my lips against hers lightly, "And you know that I love you."
She sighed and snapped her eyes open. Her eyes ran over my face for a minute, over every patch of skin and freckle on my face, almost like she was trying to memorize it. "W-what..." she sighed and her fingers ran through my hair and lightly pulled on a few strands, silently driving me crazy. "What will happen after I leave...to us?"
