Chapter Thirty-Eight - Skylar and Ryan
"My body felt like it was wrapped in barbed wire, two people at the ends pulling and pulling until I was cut into a million tiny pieces."

With my fingers crossed and eyes closed, I heard the phone dial Chloe's number.
Please pick up. Please pick up. Please pick up...
"Hello?"
I immediately relaxed and opened my eyes, "Hey."
"What's up?"
I slumped on the couch and looked down at the Julliard business card in my hands, "Can you come over?"
"Of course!" I could hear her shuffling on the other end, "What's up?"
I closed my eyes, "It's just kind of lonely with Ryan at work." I was entirely lying, I did miss him terribly even though he was coming home in a few hours.
You could almost hear Chloe's smile, "When I get over there, you have to tell me all about this weekend. Everything."
I smiled and chuckled, "Okay, I will. Hurry up and get over here."
We said our goodbyes and hung up. It felt like a decade before Chloe knocked on my door.
"Hey, how's it going?" I greeted after opening the front door.
She smiled and walked right to the couch and sat down, "Great, how's it going?"
I tried to put on a decent smile but failed, "Good."
Chloe recognized my mood immediately and she furrowed her eyebrows as I sat down next to her, "What's wrong?"
I brought out the Julliard card and Chloe's eyes met them instantly, "I decided if I'm going to Julliard or not."
Chloe's eyes met mine and her face softened, "Do you want me to call them and tell them that your not going? It's totally fine that you're not, I totally understand-"
"I'm going."
The room was dead silent, almost like the world couldn't believe that I was taking the scholarship. Chloe's shock wore off a few minutes later and a smile etched its way on her face, "You're going?"
I nodded and Chloe pulled me into a big hug, "Oh my god, that's great!"
I smiled and Chloe furrowed her eyebrows once again, "But why did you call me over?"
I slumped against the couch and ran my hands down my face, "I can't dial the number."
Chloe laughed and grabbed my phone, "Don't worry, I got you girl."
She dialed the number and once it started to ring, Chloe handled it over to me. I took a deep breath and put the phone to my ear. After two more rings, a way too perky woman answered the phone, "Hello, Annie with Julliard speaking, how may I help you?"
I took in another deep breath and licked my lips before speaking, "H-hello, this is Skylar Roberts, Professor Thomas-"
Ms. Perky cut me off. "Oh, you're the scholarship girl!"
I sighed and bit my lip, "Yeah, the scholarship girl."
"I'll connect you to the board, please hold for a few minutes."
