I sigh as I get sent to voicemail again while trying to call Griffin. For a few weeks now, every time I've called her, she hasn't answered and every time she's called back, I miss it as well. We've sent a couple texts back and forth, the only ones seeming to stand out are the ones regarding our winter break.
My mother has suggested coming up here, and she refuses to take no as an answer, and Griffins mom refuses to let her come up here to visit me. Looking down at the ring on my finger, I twist it between my fingers, wondering what the hell is going on between the two of us.
I haven't heard her voice in so long, and I miss her like crazy. I never thought this would happen, our schedules had worked together so perfectly but now they're not.
A knock on my door breaks me from my thoughts, and I stand up, walking to my door. I open it, meeting eyes with Jill.
"Hey Jill" I open the door wider, letting her in and walking back towards my bed.
"Hi Austin" She chirps happily "What's wrong?"
"Nothing" I shake my head "What's up?"
"Well, I need your help with something..." She trails off.
"Okay, what is it?"
"Well there's this girl I like right, and she's got a friend and she said that she'll go on a date with me if there's someone for her friend and you were the only person I could think of"
"Jill" I huff "The only person you could think of is someone with a girlfriend already" I raise an eyebrow, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Okay, okay" She sighs "The girl already knows who you are and she likes you and she wants you to go"
"Jillian"
"Please, please, please" She begs "Do this for me because you love me" She grabs my wrists.
"I hate you" I roll my eyes and she grins.
"But you'll help me right?" She asks "Please?"
"Fine" I huff, and she squeals, wrapping her arms around my shoulders.
"Thank you! You're the best best friend ever"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah" I roll my eyes playfully.
"I'll be back in an hour to get you" She smiles, skipping out of my room. I walk to my bathroom and take a quick shower, knowing I'm making a huge mistake by doing this. I get out of the shower and change, getting dressed.
I walk over to my bed and lay down, calling Griffin again. It goes to her voicemail and I sigh, waiting for the beep to leave a voicemail. I stay quiet for a moment after the beep, before letting out a sigh "I miss you, Baby. I love you so much, and I miss you" I hang up the phone, dropping it on my bed.
Just like she said, an hour later, Jill was knocking on my door. I open it, and she grabs my wrists dragging me down the hallway.
"Jill my phone-"
"Isn't important, let's hurry"
"But Grif-"
"Can wait" She cuts me off again, dragging me towards her car. I get into the passenger seat, Jill drives towards wherever we're going and we pull into a parking lot of a restaurant. We get out, and I follow Jill, seeing her run of to two girls, wrapping her arms around one of them.
"Hey" She grins, before turning to me "Guys this is Austin, Austin this is Mary, and Cassidy"
"Hi" I smile, and Jill pushes Cassidy towards me.
"Hey" She says as she stumbles towards me.
"Let's go inside" Jill says and we all follow her. We sit down at a table, Cassidy sitting next to me.
"I didn't actually think you'd come" She told me, and I shrug "Don't you have a girlfriend?"
"Yes" I nod "But Jill's a good friend of mine so"
"Does your girlfriend know you're here?" She asks, and I shake my head.
"No"
"Oh, okay" She nods "Well, thanks for coming"
"No problem" I shake my head.
After the lunch, I had a surprisingly nice time. Cassidy seems like a great person, but she's not my Griffin. No one's my Griffin.
Walking back to my room, I unlock the door, seeing my roommate digging through my drawers "Dude! Can you for once not go through my shit?" I push him away, slamming my drawer shut.
"Sorry" He sighs, before scurrying out of the room.
I walk to my bed and lay down, grabbing my phone and seeing a voicemail from Griffin. I open it, and hold the phone up to my ear to listen to it.
"Hi Love" She sighs "I'm sorry I missed your call for the hundredth day in a row. I miss you so much, and I want to see you so bad" She says "I don't know where you went in the five minutes that passed after you called me, but I hope you're having fun. I love you, and I hope I can finally hear from you" She says, and the voicemail ends.
I dial Tiana's phone number, knowing that I probably won't hear from Griffin if I call her "Hello?" She answers.
"How's my girlfriend?" I ask, and she chuckles.
"She's alright, she misses you" She tells me "She always asks me why you never answer"
"Can I tell you something? But promise you won't tell anyone, not even Zach"
"Sure" She agrees "I promise"
"I hung out with this girl today, as a sort of double date thing that wasn't my idea, but I honestly had a good time. I missed the affection, even though there wasn't much. I just, I miss it" I frown.
"What'd you tell her before you left?" She asks me.
"That I wouldn't find someone better than her" I say "Which is still true, there's still no one better than Griffin, and there never will be"
"Austin, I love you, you know that, but I don't think you should give up. You'll see her soon"
"How? Winter break is in a little over a month and I can't come home"
"Why not?"
"My mom wants to come up here so she can see the snow" I huff "T, tell me what to do"
"Don't give up on someone that's not giving up on you" Is all she says before she hangs up, and as much as I wish it was that easy, I can already tell it won't be.
