Lila's POV

My words are caught in my throat. She states back blankly.

"Y- you?" I stutter. She stands up,"We're copies!" Her small group of friends, and Elle stare.

"Um... we'll leave you two alone for a minute." Elle says, bringing the other group to the opposite side of Starbucks.

We sit down in the booth,"Who are you!?" She questions. I sit straighter, as if trying to assert dominance. "My name is Lila Jones. I'm 16. And you are?" I reply, looking at her skeptically.

She straightens,"Tessa Linton. I'm 16 too, and apparently we are doppelgangers. Or... something."

This is where it all takes off.

"Wait... so you are going to GY Academy too!" I exclaim, baffled at the similarities. She nods,"Yah. I've been kind of down in the dumps about it. But now I'm wondering if it has anything to deal with..." She trails off.

"What? Anything to deal with what?" I urge. She breaths out heavily,"Promise you wont laugh?"

I nod, holding up my hand,"pinkie promise." She giggles, and links our pinkies.

"Ok. I was leaving to go to the mall a while back, and I touched some papers. They literally burst into flames in my hands. And then I found this necklace in it." She pulls a necklace from under her collar.

My jaw drops. "I- I have the same one! Except, I got mine when a pillow burnt in my hands!" She gasps.

I'm overwhelmed with excitement.. Or fear. I can't really tell. I pull my necklace out from under my collar. She examines it,"Exactly like mine!"

"I'm baffled! I dont think I'm adopted... And mom never mentioned a twin." I say, thoughts swirling in my head.

She grabs my hand, as if about to say something important,  but suddenly the coffee cup in my opposite hand starts burning. Elle glances over and screams, "FIRE!" There's a moment of hysteria in my mind before she dumps a glass of water on it.

Then, I refocus. Why didn't my hand burn? I didn't feel any pain.

Before anyone can question us about the random cup burst into flames, Tessa grabs my arm and drags me to the girls restroom. She locks the door behind us.

"Oh my god. Lila look at your eyes." She directs me to a mirror, and I almost scream at what I see. My eyes are glowing orange... like flames. "What the hell!" I exclaim.

"I- I don't know! Maybe this all has to do with going to London... and- and GY Academy!" I splash my face with cold water and try to calm down as Tessa paces endlessly beside me.

"There is no logical reason in this world for... flaming eyes and random fires. We must have some sort of. Um. Gift?" I conclude, patting my frizzled hair down.

Tessa glances at me again,"Fire eye, things, are gone." I sigh in releif. This is by far the oddest thing to ever happen to me.

"Should we tell the others?" She questions. I shake my head vigorously,"Someone might freak out and call the FBI or something and we'll end up in Area 51."

She laughs, trying to lighten the mood. The tension and fear in the air is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

"Can we touch hands again... you know, to see what happens?" I suggest. Tessa seems hesitant,"I guess we could. Just dont let go unless we start causing harm."

I nod,"Will do."

We both take a breath, and I shake my head and hands. Clear thoughts. Tessa stretches out her hands and I grab them.

It immediately sparks, and small flames cast themselves from the inside of our hands. She holds her breath, as if waiting for the flame to die out.

Instead, the opposite happens. The flames extend up our arms, but our skin and clothes remain unscathed.

I don't feel any heat. This is wrong. This is unusual. This is not good. I cant say it's bad, but I don't think it's for the better.

We both gawk as it rounds our chests, and finally travels to our heads. I feel like my hair is morphing into something, though I cant tell what.

I look to Tessa, and now know.
Our hair has ignited into flames in itself, her eyes glinting orange like before, and our skin begins turning into what looks like ash.

"This... This is amazing!" I exclaim. Tessa almost replies, when I'm hit with a sudden tiredness. Tessa says something I can't comprehend.

I see someone, who looks an awful lot like Mom,but I can't tell as my vision blurs. My body collapses onto the ground, a state of complete weakness.

My head falls to the side, in time to see Tessa fall beside me, someone standing above her. My body feels like it's going back to normal. The two people exchange words I can't hear, before I'm pulled into the tempting luxury of darkness in sleep.
