After lunch, Tessa and I decide to head back, hoping our boxes arrived. Sure enough, when she pops open the door, each of our two boxes are stacked neatly beside the beds.
"Finally, we can decorate!" Tessa says, pulling out her first box. I laugh,"We just got here, what's the rush?"
She sucks in a breath,"Lila, don't you know, nothing looks good all white!" She jokes, pointing to our beyond plain room.I roll my eyes and go over to my own boxes. The first thing I see when I open the box is my Harry Potter books, and I start laughing like a mad woman.
Tessa raises and eyebrow, and slowly walk over,"Um, Lila? What's the bug deal?" She says, concern drowning every word flowing from her mouth.
I calm myself, and choose my next words carefully. "It's Its so weird knowing, when I packed this very box, I thought Harry Potter was the coolest and most magical thing. And now I'm a freaking fire demon!" I giggle.
She smiles,"You know, I have never believed in the phrase,'You never know what life's gonna throw at you' more than I do now."
Tessa goes back to pulling out her bedding and things. I pull out my black and purple bedding, and replace the plain white pillows, sheets and blankets. I place my old teddy bear on the top, making this room actually look lived in.
I fill a shelf with my books, and put my journal on top. Easy.
I look behind me to see Tessa almost done filling the TV stand with movies. "I brought some classics, I figured we would have some extra time on weekends." She explains, pushing Mean Girls in with the others, then hopping on her bed.
"That's good, I wonder if they have any movie theaters or anything around here. Maybe we are aloud to go out to the big downtown London." I suggest.
She shrugs,"I wish, It's not like we spontaneously burst into flames. But maybe some of the others powers are still too immature."
I cock my head,"Perhaps, but they should at least trust some of us."
We are interrupted by the door swinging open. Mr.Capaldi walks in, two women following behind them.
"Hello ladies." He greets, shaking each of our hands. What's this about? Tessa thinks pannicking. Not sure. Don't worry. I try to reassure her.
We inch closer, and he stands for a minute before talking again. "Ah, yes, you ladies are aware you are adopted, yes?" We nod.
"Well, your parents have been living completely in the supernatural world. They were amazing people. In fact, before the two of you were born, they defeated an eminent threat to our kind."
I laugh ,"That's so cool! So our parents are heroes!" I exclaim. He nods, smiling at our giddiness.
"They were incredible individuals. When you two were born, we discovered something. Having a whole supernatural family under one roof is incredibly dangerous. So the two of you were sent somewhere you would be safe until your powers developed."
Tessa stops him,"So why couldn't we even meet then? Where are they?"
He holds up a hand,"Please wait for me to finish before you ask questions or comments."
Haha you got in trouble. I joke. She shoots me a look, jerk. I bite my lip to keep from laughing and let Mr.Capaldi finish."Well, your parents are alive, yes, but not how you would probably like it. They are now in a highly protected prison facility. You see, your parents, one a fire user, one an earth user, well, they used those powers for evil. They destroyed an entire country."
I throw a hand over my mouth. That can't be true. They cant be that terrible.
"So, can we still see them? I understand they aren't the best, but they are still out parents." Tessa insists.
Mr. Capaldi presses his lips into a thin line, absorbed in thoughts. "I suppose so, but we would like you to be careful. I'm afraid you yourselves might be absorbed in the greed and fame if you don't act carefully yourselves."
"I understand." We say. He gives us that look we've grown familiar to. The 'Why do they say everything at the same time' look.
"Thank you girls. I felt I needed to address this concern directly." He seems so relieved, beyond anything I would recognize. Was he really that terrified?
My thoughts are pulled from the moment when he speaks up again,"If you'd like to see them, I will bring you to them. I dont know how heartwarming and loving they will be, but I understand the emotional reasoning behind the need to meet them." He tells us.
I grab Tessas hand. Even if they are criminals. We are finally going to meet our real parents.
