Tessa's POV
We start dividing into our groups. There are 3 other fairies with Molli and Karli, and only one other fire user.
Miss. Judge ushers us to one of the areas, and closes the door. "I'll be there in a few minutes, let me get everyone together." She explains through the glass.
Lila and I sit down in some of the chairs. The other boy paces the floor. Around the room is maybe a dozen chairs. By the end, on one half of the wall, is a big mat, with targets at the end.
On the other side is a large glass sphere. I really wonder what that could be for. Tessa. A new voice sings in my head, drawing out every letter of my name.
I look at Lila,"Did you hear that." She shakes her head, and goes back to looking around. You know who I am darling. Then I know. Mom.
Get out of my head. I try to get her to just leave me alone. Honey, how are you doing on our plan? How much progress? She sounds so sweet. I know I can't ignore her. It's going ok, but Lila keeps insisting we do things with other people. I barely ever have time alone.
I'll admit, the plan isnt going incredibly well, but I insist she knows the difficulties. I love Lila, but she keeps getting in the way. You know what to do, just say no. She can deal with it. I sigh. It's true, I can say no. I just don't want to upset her.
Ok, fine. Please go now. Miss. Judge is coming. I beg to myself she will not do that again. Ok darling, I love you. I don't reply, and she doesn't say anything else. As it should be.
Miss. Judge walks in, and motions for all of us to stand up. "Names please. Just so no one forgets." She points at each of us. "Tessa." "Lila." "John."
She claps her hands once,"Great. Not hard. Now, I want you all to come here." She brings us to the big glass sphere.
"Step inside. Go on. All of you. Its ok." We hesitantly trickle in. She shuts the little opening. I feel nervous, though I know I shouldn't be.
"Alrighty kiddos. Grab each other's hands. Don't be scared." We all exchange confused glances. I think she's a little weird. "Good thing. Ok, now, on the count of three, I want you to use as much power and force as you can. You'll do it for 1 minute. Even if you feel like you might pass out."
Really? Not much concern for our well being huh. "Which you probably will." She adds on at the end. "What!" We all 3 scream in unison. "Its ok! It happens to every one! This is our way to measure how much energy is being generated by you 3. Too much energy in one place, this school, could literally make it burst in flames."
I guess that sounds reasonable. We count down. "One..." I gulp, knowing I'm nervous without needing to be. "Two." I look at Lila, we share the same terrified look."Three." We all burst into flames, our forms all morphing into our, as I call it, 'Fire monsters'.
It's almost painful trying so hard. I can't see well, my vision blocked by all the flames. I hear Miss. Judge yell,"Oh my God! You guys are barely under the limit!"
Try harder. Mom again. I grunt. I am trying. This is the power I have. I know she is trying to help, but I don't need anymore right now. The fire crackling in my ears and roar of the summoned flames is enough distraction.
Focus. Focus on your desire to be better. On your desire for power. On your desire, to be like me. I really concentrate. Then something seems to click in my brain. Why am I bothering to even try to be sub par. I need power.
But just like that, we all tumble down into unconscious heaps. All sucked into a world of silence and darkness.
Sorry for the short chapter and cliffy, I just wanted to get an update out.
