Melissa's POV

-----------------------

After all that took place when Luke found his file and the secrets hidden beyond, I found myself convinced that he needed to be protected even more than before, which did not go over well with the boy that thought of himself as the protector. Despite my efforts to convince him I was not in harm's way, he had still convinced Michael to stay by my side when he was unable to. Michael, being the overprotective older brother he was, disregarded my attempts to convince him that I was able to protect myself, citing off many occasions that I had been injured to prove his point.

The following weeks of the revelation were the same old bore of me going to my office, those times accompanied by Michael, until the day finally came that the entire core group was needed to form a generalized idea as to what to do after the Code was deciphered, which, to be fair, had been discussed on multiple occasions. This time seemed to be no different, but it seemed to have been deemed extremely important, giving me the upper hand when debating with Luke as to whether or not I would attend.

The conversation still floated through my mind as we traveled down the corridor to the meeting room that had been revamped upon my departure, which I was still getting used to.

"Luke it is important," I argued with him, leaning forward on one foot as we were across the room from one another, leaving Michael to sit on the bed and look back and forth, unsure of who to support due to both party's obvious lack of temper control.

"Your safety is important Lissa. You say you understand that I don't want to risk anything with you, yet you constantly argue with my decisions!" he screamed, his voice echoing off the walls of the small room.

The door silently opened and went unnoticed by Luke and I as we went head to head, allowing Calum and Ashton to enter and sit next to the silent boy that was seated on mine and Luke's bed.

My eyes rolled at Luke's assumption that I had to be protected. He had been harshly debating me for the past week as to whether his father would come after me or not, which he had not. Luke said that was only due to Michael being beside me at all times and his harsh stares towards the leader of the colony.

"I'm not a fucking china doll!" I yelled, allowing Luke's eyes to widen before continuing. "Maybe if you would notice that, we would get along better!"

"So now we don't get along?!?" he asked in a frustrated tone, running his hand through his hair as a pained expression came across his face.

Luke was extremely sensitive about issues such as not getting along or not working out, especially since the entire file fiasco. He hated the fact that he could invest his heart into something, but it turn out bad so fast. I assumed that it was the logical thing, considering his past and the hardships he had endured; however, as the relationship went on and I said things that I didn't mean, I had to be careful as Luke would take certain topics to heart far too quickly for me to attempt to make up for my words.

Something inside of my heart broke a bit every time his blue eyes would look the way they did currently. He looked lost as if he were a lost puppy, unsure as to what he did wrong to deserve being taken back to the pound. It was the small things such as these that broke me every time we would fight. His crystal blue eyes would leave me running back to his arms and begging for forgiveness, placing us at the same point we started and only proving me to be much weaker than him when it came to the skill of denying the other.
