"Young!" I looked up and walked over after Avery called me into his office.

I closed the door behind me and looked up to see my old boss- Jackson, standing by the windows.

He always treated me respectfully, plus he's handsome.

"Captain Jackson, it's so nice to see you." I smiled because it's been a while with me working with homicide.

"Young, how've you been?" He asked as we shook hands.

"Good, I'm officially a Junior Detective." I smiled.

"Good, good. I've been hearing exceptional things about you." He said and I acted flattered.

"I'm still just a junior." I shrugged.

"I think we might have something to bump you up." Avery said and I looked at both of them.

"We have a case that we'd love for you to help us with- if you're interested?" Jackson said and I nodded.

Jackson handed me a file and I opened it without warning, I gasped as I closed it.

"Sorry, we should've warned you." Jackson lowly chuckled.

I scoffed, I slowly opened it again, looking at the gruesome pictures of 6 girls who had no skin on their bodies- it was a traumatic sight.

"We joke and call this killer- Jack the Ripper." Avery said and my eyes widened as I looked up at them.

"All six of these girls were raped and murdered within this last year. We thought we caught the guy, but when he was in jail- on death row, two more murders were committed." He said and I exhaled loudly.

"Why do you think I can help?" I asked as I closed the file.

"Because I worked with you for a few years- I know how good you are. Plus you're a killer shot." Jackson smiled and I chuckled.

"I'll help in anyway I can but I don't know if I can." I spoke honestly.

"All we need is for you to try." Avery smiled, "You'll be temporarily working with Jackson here, but I'd like for you to report back with me whenever you can." Avery said and I nodded.

"And," Jackson chuckled, "Since this case is such a big deal, I'll have to ask you to wear the right attire." Jackson smirked and I looked down at my sneakers, ripped jeans and sweater.

I nervously chuckled, "Of course, when do I start?" I asked.

"Tomorrow. See you then, partner." Jackson walking past me and I nodded at him as he left.

I looked through the glass windows to see Riggs looking at us before he looked away quickly.

"Alright, you're dismissed." "Thanks, Captain." I thanked Avery before leaving, I was about to clock out anyways so I went home and read up about the gruesome case.

--

I breathed deeply as I walked into the office in my white blouse and black pencil skirt that hugged my hips.

I knew people would wonder why I was dressed how I was, and they'd just have to keep wondering.

I sat at my desk, sighing as the new large pile of files stared at me.

--

"Young?" "Yo?" I said not looking up at who I was talking to.

I made a weird face before looking up, "Charlie, what are you doing here?" I chuckled.

"I have some news- can we talk for a minute?" She asked and I obligated quickly.

We walked past Riggs and Bailey before we made it to the hallway.

"The suspense is killing me." I said all giddy.

"Then I'll just say it- straight up." She said breathing deeply, "I'm engaged." She said and my eyes widened.

"What?" I spoke in a hushed tone.

"Jason purposed- you're the first I'm telling." She smiled and my heart ached, happily- mostly.

"Charlie." I pouted.

I hugged her tightly, "I'm so happy for you." I spoke sincerely.

"Also," She said as we broke apart, "I want you to be my maid of honor. I can't imagine anyone else filling the role." She said and I smiled so wide that my cheeks hurt.

"Really?" I spoke breathlessly.

I quickly wiped the tear that rolled down my cheek.

"Of course! I was yours when you got married, I want you to be mine." She smiled as she held my hands tightly.

"C, I'll do anything. Name it." I said as I smiled before sobbing- so extremely happy for my friend finally having a life after all she's been through.

"Actually, the wedding is kinda soon." "How soon?" I chuckled.

"Next weekend. Only close friends and family will come." "Next weekend?" I laughed in shock.

She nodded with a smile, "Well, we'll just have to find our dresses soon." I said and she smiled widely.

She told me that we had appointments tomorrow before she left quickly, after telling me how much she loved me.

I went into the ladies room and sat in an empty stall, I cried for awhile- it seems like that's all I do nowadays.

I checked my makeup before I went back into the office, Riggs gave me a questionable look but I tried to ignore it as I finished my work for the day.

So much research.
