"What about your family?" I said sitting on top of Martin's hips, him laying on the couch with his hands on my thighs.
"Eh," He crinkled his nose, "Come on, I'm inviting my whole family- Harper and Daniels parents, all the kids, Charlie and Jason, the lot." I pouted.
"That's enough, then. My family isn't big on my life." "What do you mean?" I pried because for the whole time I've known him, he's never once brought up his family.
"I mean you're my family now, my only family." He said and I looked to see his gaze was fixed upon me.
I leaned down and brushed a strand of hair from his face before kissing him sweetly, "I can't wait to marry you." He mumbled against my lips and I smiled into the kiss before he flipped me over with ease.
His body hovered over me as I laughed, he kissed my neck as I hummed.
"That makes two of us." I spoke with a smile.
He sat up slightly so we could see each other's faces, I ran my thumb across his cheek gently.
He leaned back down before my phone started ringing, I turned my head to look at it as his forehead rested on my neck.
I reached for it before barely grabbing it, "Hello?" I answered it as I played with my fiancés hair.
I listened as Bailey told me that we had to go do some investigating down at a bar that had imported sand.
I thanked her before hanging up, "Can saving the world wait?" Martin groaned, knowing what the phone call was about.
--
"You're serious. You imported sand to the beach." Riggs said in amazement as the Hawaiian sand ran through his fingers.
"The new owner wanted to make some noise. I know, it sounds like the most L.A thing ever." A woman in a tight red dress laughed, smiling at Riggs, not so much me.
"Nah, I'd say top three." Riggs said standing up straight and the woman giggled.
"The security footage is all loaded. Make yourself at home." The woman spoke to Riggs-- again, not so much to me.
"Thank you." He said as he stood close to me, we both started looking at some footage, looking for a hitman with a blue suit case, like the body we found.
"Can I get you something to drink?" She asked Riggs, "No, I'm okay, thanks." He politely smiled before looking back at the iPad in hand.
"A cartel hitman with a blue suitcase should be easy to find." Riggs said as I folded my arms over my chest.
"Did you notice she didn't even ask me if I wanted a drink? That was all for you." I said looking up at him.
"Well, she probably realizes, you know, I'm the kind of guy that would be drunk in the middle of the day." He said looking over at me with a small smirk.
"Come on, M. She couldn't stop smiling at you. You didn't notice?" I asked as he reviewed the footage again.
"I noticed." He said not looking up at me.
"And?" "And what?" He looked up at me.
"Nothing." I sighed.
We went back to staring at the screen before something came up, "Hitman with a blue suitcase." I pointed.
He switched camera views to see the parking lot.
"The cars a rental. Sticker in the window." He said zooming up.
"We can track it, it's LoJacked." I said as we left the fancy bar and restaurant.
As we got in the car, it was weirdly quiet.
We got a trace on the car and started trailing it.
"I'm sorry, about earlier." I spoke up, he looked very focused as he drove the car we were in.
His hand on my headrest, he glanced at me.
"I mean, it's just, we don't talk about anything." I said looking over at him to see him looking at me for only a second, "Okay.. Something else we don't talk about. We'll just add it to the list." I sighed as I looked out my window like the pouty teenager I was.
"There's a list?" He asked.
"A very long one. He's turning." I nodded ahead of us because Riggs kept looking at me, losing focus.
"We should just track him for awhile, we'll just end up getting shot this way." He said as he pulled away from the car we've been following.
"What else is on this list?" He asked as he turned towards me after parking beside a curb.
"Your family, for one." I said looking up at him.
"The time you served as a Navy Seal, Miranda, anything and everything that involves your past. And now apparently we can't talk about me being a green monster." I huffed.
"I served 6 years, got 10 honorary medals when I left. I lost a lot of good men and women when I served so I don't find it comforting to talk about, all I see is them being killed.."
"And my family is a small town family who refuses to leave, even for their sons homecoming. So I left Texas, not wanting to be like that when I grew up." He spoke quickly, but slow enough for me to understand.
"Miranda broke my heart, so no, I don't like talking about her particularly. But yeah, I loved her and thought I'd be with her forever so it hurt when she decided that she couldn't do it anymore. And there is absolutely no reason for you to be jealous of anyone, I'm not attracted to any other person in the world, alright? Physically, emotionally, mentally-- all I ever think about is you, your skin, your smile, the way you laugh when I say something inappropriate, I'm completely and totally in too deep with you. And I love you, and I don't want you to take this lightly." He finished as he breathing deepened, it was a mouthful.
"I won't.. Take it lightly." I whispered.
"I do want to be open with you, trust me. But when your trust gets broken so many times, it's hard." He sighed, playing with my hand.
"You don't have to tell me about trust issues. I've got plenty." I chuckled softly.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to push you. It's just hard when I tell you everything and I barely get a story." I sighed.
"No, I'm sorry. I trust you more than anyone, and it'll probably stay like that until I die. I guess we've been in similar situations where our trust has been betrayed." He said and I nodded.
"I love you, M." I spoke as I looked up at him.
"I love you too, Deja."
