49 - Old friends

   Chapter 49

It had been 2 days since I had woken up from my coma. I had most of my memory back which was a good thing, however some things were still a blur to me. My days in the hospital just consisted of doctors and nurses coming in and out to check up on me and check that my body was functioning well. I was still quite weak considering my body was starting to function on its own without support. I was also still in pain but other than that I was alive and thankful. 

"How you doing Cass?" Darnell said walking in

"Good" I croaked

He kissed my cheek and sat down. He looked at me.

"What's wrong?" He said

"I just- ..I just want to get out of here. I don't want to be lying here in a hospital bed doing nothing" I said

"Don't worry about that Cass. You'll be out before you know it." He smiled and held my hand

There were a couple of knocks on the door, and then it opened. My grandma, Dwayne and a couple of my cousins came through the door with gifts and balloons and cards. Over the last couple of days, Grandma has been so supportive. I winced as a sat up and then hugged them all. I remembered most of them, but some of my cousins were unfamiliar.

"How are you?" She asked

"I'm fine thanks. I just can't wait to get out of here" I said

"Soon babe, soon"

Everyone began conversating with everyone in the room. I liked it. I really did have people around me who cared. I smiled at this..

"What's good lil cuz?" Dwayne said sitting next to me.

Everyone had turned their attention to a video game being played on the tv

"Nothing. Nothing at all" I said and he laughed

"You got me really worried you kno." He said

"Yeah lool, I think I got everyone worried" I said

"I feel bad for everything.." He said

"Why?"

"Because I haven't been there for you. Gran.. told me- about everything. With your stepdad and that. I remember when we were younger, I told you that I would always be there for you. That I wouldn't let nobody hurt you. And now look where we are." 

"But Dwayne it's not your fault. Look I know I don't remember everything that's happened but Im ready to put everything in the past. Maybe it's a good thing I don't remember most of my past. I've never been able to get over it. Maybe this is an opportunity to just move on and look forward." I said. "And now you're in my life.. So what could go wrong?"

He smiled.. "Yeah you're right. And I swear as soon as you get out of here we are splashing out. Going shopping, going out to eat. I'm gonna make up for the years that we have missed out on. Don't worry" He winked

I just laughed. This guy was actually mad. I looked around the room. Everyone seemed happy. Dwayne, Darnell and my cousins Dylan, Marcus and Maurice- the only boys that I properly remembered were hogging the tv playing fifa whilst the females just watched and laughed. I remembered my female cousins Demi and my oldest cousin Adele. The other 2 weren't really familiar. And then there was my grandma. Come to think of it I actually did have lots of relatives ..but how come it's only now Im meeting them again? I lay in the bed confused..and then realised someone was missing..

Wait ..where was Cashel?

"Yooo YOO YOOO! I brought us some food-" He stopped in his tracks awkwardly. "Well hello everyone" He said
