*BANG BANG BANG*

The loud bangs on the door woke me up. I didn't know if they were real or if i was dreaming so i stayed a while.

*BANG BANG BANG BANG*

I put my glasses on and quickly put on my dressing gown and slippers before walking towards the main door. It could only be one person.
I opened the door and watched as he ran through the house cursing. I pushed my glasses further up, looked outside to see if anybody else was there and then locked the door. I could hear him in the kitchen fiddling with the cupboards and the fridge. I walked into the kitchen and stood by the door. I watched as he ran his hands under the tap whilst blood fell into the sink.

"Flip Sake Man, Lil Dickhead, When I Catch Him Slipping It's Peak!"

He sat down at the table and opened the first aid kit. I watched as he struggled to open the packets. I walked towards him and sat next to him. I took his hand and cleaned it with the alcohol wiper.

"OW MAN!" He hissed

I carefully wrapped his hands in the bandage, and threw everything else away.

"Thanks" He mumbled.

"Are you gonna tell me what happened ?" I asked quietly.

"Naah man, just go to bed Cassie"

I nodded .."Night Darnell"

"Night"

I left the kitchen and slowly made my way up the stairs and into bed. This is how my life was like ..My life revolved around Darnell. Darnell is my bestfriend ..we've been best friends since like forever. I think the first time we met was in year 3 when he started my primary school ..and since then it's always been me and him. We are both 16 but he is older than me by a couple days. He's always been getting into trouble since he was young, and it's always me that has to help him. I don't mind though, because he's done everything for me...

Basically ..My Name is Cassie Jones, Im 16 years old and Im Fully Ghanaian. I have quite a light skin, so people are often shocked when i tell them that im ghanaian. My dad died when i was young leaving my mum all alone to raise me. But this resulted in her turning to drugs and alcohol which in the end took her life. So all i was left with was the guy i called my "Stepdad" I say this because no "stepdad" beats their step daughter ..no "stepdad" tries to rape their step daughter on many occasions and no "stepdad" allows their step daughter to have to try to survive by themselves. Sometimes i would go on for days without seeing him ..most times when he was at home he'd be drunk. This is why most of the times im at Darnells house.

Darnell is the only one who knows about what i go through. No one in school knows, not even my close friend Elizabeth. In school im never with Darnell ..He says that if we are seen together, his "enemies" may take me away from him or some rubbish like that. So we always text or communicate using our facial expressions or our body.

He has a girlfriend, Chelsea. She's really really pretty. But as usual, like most of the girls nowadays is quite loose ..i've only spoken to her once or twice ..she seems nice but trust me ..she really isn't. She's also very clingy ..this is one thing Darnell hates about her. He tells me that she is just a link ..he denies the fact that she is his girlfriend most times.

You see ..Darnell is associated with a lot of gang members, violence, drugs and money. Im the only person that can call him by his government name ..Well Chelsea can but he doesn't like her using his real name. Nearly everynight he ends up banging at my door running away from police or when his mum has had an argument with whichever man is at his house he would just knock on my window and jump in and sleep with me. It was a thing we just did ..we would just cuddle in bed ..nothing sexual ..he knows not to stoop that low.

I heard the door open and then close. Although it was dark i could see his figure. He kicked off his trainers and took off his top and trousers before lifting up the covers and getting into my bed. He lay his head in the crook of my neck and kissed it.

"I love you .." he said

"I love you too.."

He fidgeted a little and after a minute of getting comfortable ..he fell asleep. Not too long after ..i was gone ....
