Karma left soon after the fireworks started, leaving Kayano and Nagisa to have some time to themselves. Of course, neither of them noticed the sly demon perched in a nearby tree watching them with sharp eyes, but that didn't matter.
"Nagisa... who was that?" Kayano asked uncertainly.
Nagisa gave an apologetic smile. "I...I don't really know. He approached me and just started talking to me..."
In truth, Nagisa was curious himself. Yet there was nagging suspicion that something was off, something he should be able to recognize.
Nagisa mentally slapped himself. As an angel, he should be able to recognize this stuff! Usually it was almost like a 6th sense, his ability to read others and find their motives.
But for some reason, he was struggling tremendously trying to figure Karma Akabane out. Just who was he?
-
The next day, Nagisa felt much more rested. He sat up in bed, wondering what he could do. As he was an angel, one job was to be checking around to make sure nothing was off. Things considered "disrupting" could be demons causing mischief, a strangely high number of people with dark thoughts, or supernatural activity. That's why certain angels were assigned to random places to monitor the area, keeping peace for them.
Nagisa paused thoughtfully. When was the last time he'd done that? He might as well spend the day out taking care of that. Now with renewed motivation, the experienced angel hopped out of bed and began his day.
Nagisa found himself aimlessly wandering to the park, where he carefully watched the moods and hidden thoughts of those around him. Nothing seemed off. Yet the blue-haired angel couldn't get his mind off of the stranger he'd met yesterday.
Karma Akabane.
What had he wanted? Nagisa didn't sense anything suspicious about him, but then again it was as if his angel sense had completely dulled around the red head. Nagisa wasn't a big fan for that.
The angel glanced up, looking around. He came to an abrupt stop.
Where was he? Had he actually wandered far enough where he wasn't sure where he was? The angel figured he must've taken a wrong turn somewhere. Should be easy enough to fix if he just retraced his steps-
"Ohh~ perfect! You've gotten yourself to a spot where you're all alone! That makes my job so much easier!" A voice exclaimed from behind him.
Nagisa spun around, suddenly aware of the presence behind him, but he wasn't quick enough. The figure in front of him landed a lightning fast blow to the head, knocking the angel to the ground. A stinging sensation zipped through his arm, as if he'd been stabbed by a needle. Unable to look at it without taking his eyes off the demon, he ignored it.
Nagisa's head spun, and he forced himself to get back on his feet and back up. His attacker wore a predatory smirk, advancing closer. His red eyes gleamed with a bloodlust that was all to recognizable to Nagisa. Demon.
"I've been hungry for so long," the demon purred, his voice like burning lava. Smooth but so very dangerous. "There's been a lack of angels recently, so I can't be bothered by the long process. It's so much easier to get straight to the point~" and with a vicious gleam in his eyes, he jumped at Nagisa.
The angel side-stepped the attack, willing an energy shield around him. It wasn't unnatural for a demon to go after souls violently when it was hungry, but this demon seemed particularly vicious.
"An energy shield already? Cmon I'm not that scary," the demon laughed darkly, baring his teeth. "How hard is it to give up your soul to a poor, hungry demon?"
Honey dripped from his words, the seductive lull wrapping around Nagisa, trying to force a cloud over his mind. Sensing this, the angel quickly focused his energy on a mental block. It was a trick he'd learned from experience and coaching from a friend. He'd found it came in handy, with all the seducing demons used to get their prey. Of course, this made his physical shield weaker, but at least he could fully rely on his brain now.
"Sorry I'm not interested," Nagisa hissed, getting into a defensive position.
The demon appeared taken aback by his resistance. "How did you...? Oh, no matter," the demon hissed, "I won't let you win this." The sinister look in his blood-red eyes darkened. A purple smoke began to flicker in the palms of his hand.
Nagisa gulped, reaching for his holy knife. Where was it? He checked his other pocket. Shit. Of course, today was the day he'd left home without it. He'd been so distracted he'd left it!
The angel cursed to himself silently, looking around wildly for an escape. His only chance out of this was to run to the public, where even a hungry demon wouldn't risk exposure.
But demons had speed. Even Nagisa, who was very agile compared to most angels, had a very low percentage of outrunning a demon. He had a monthly wing use, which was when an angel could summon their wings and soar to their hearts content for an hour max. But Nagisa used his 3 weeks ago with the last demon he'd encountered.
The demon in front of him flashed a wicked grin, sensing his fear. "Scared, little angel?" Then he was gone.
Nagisa gasped as the air was knocked out of him. His energy shield had deflected the first hit, but shattered on the second. He needed to work on that. Another swift kick knocked him to the ground, before a weight pinned him to it. A burning sensations began spreading from his side outwards. Nagisa found himself face-to-face with his attacker, who was staring hungrily down at him. The world felt extremely tilted before snapping back to normal. Nagisa groaned. He wasn't much for motion sickness but this combined with the burning and stinging sensation on his arm and side was too much.
"You should be happy," the demon purred, "you'll provide an excellent meal for me~!"
Nagisa flinched, wriggling around helplessly. Was this seriously how he was going to go out?
"HELP!" He screamed at the top of his lungs, clinging to the desperate hope that someone-anyone- would be out there and hear him.
"Haha!" laughed the demon, smirking down at him. "Really, if you hadn't wandered so far away maybe you'd have a better chance of someone hearing you. I suppose I should thank you, for being such an easy meal!"
Nagisa clenched his teeth, shutting his eyes tight. The burning sensation slowly crept up his side.
"Don't worry~ I'll try and make this as quick as possible. After all, I'm hungry too," he whispered the last part sensually into Nagisa's ear.
Then, suddenly, the weight on him was gone. Nagisa's sky blue eyes flew open, and he looked up. His attacker had been flung off of him.
The angel struggled to sit up, his stomach still aching and his head spinning from being slammed on the ground. The stinging sensation in his arm had been overtaken by the burning in his side. Yet the sight that greeted his eyes shocked him.
The male from yesterday had engaged in a fight with Nagisa's attacker. The demon launched himself at Karma at an inhuman speed. Nagisa gasped, and he wanted to shout a warning to the naïve mortal. The words, however, died on his lips after what happened next.
Karma became a blur of red as he reacted to his attacker's move, and in mere seconds, the demon who'd had Nagisa pinned on the ground ready to take his soul was on the ground himself, groaning in pain.
He spat blood. "How dare you..." he hissed. "Who..?"
Nagisa continued staring, open mouthed.
Karma smirked down at him. "Karma Akabane. Is it necessary to know who you are? I mean, I could kill you in seconds," the red-head drawled, as if it was no big deal.
The demon's eyes widened in recognition, then narrowed. "You'd do that to your fellow demon? The great Karma Akabane?"
"Ehh?" Karma managed to pull off a look of surprise that held the perfect mixture of disdain and amusement added. "Surely you'd know that it's survival of the fittest for us demons? Angels are a rarity, and I don't plan on letting you have one so easily. Unless you're willing to die."
Karma's golden eyes darkened threateningly, and the demon below him gulped. "F-fine then," he snapped, "I'll leave you to it."
"Glad to see we have an understanding," Karma purred lowly. The demon fled.

Don't expect quick updates, as I have no clue how long each will take. I'll do my best to get them out quickly though.
