"I agree," Karma hummed cheerfully. His fingertips trailed lightly up and down Nagisa's arm. "Shall I heal your bruises?"
"There's not many, but if you want," Nagisa shrugged.
Karma adjusted their positions so that Nagisa was resting against the step and he was leaning over him. "Where?" Karma asked simply.
After a second, Nagisa responded. "One on my left arm, one on my right, several on both legs mostly on my knees, and my head maybe? Oh and one on my side."
"Sure," Karma muttered, "not a lot." His golden eyes looked exasperated.
"I'm fine," Nagisa reprimanded gently.
"Are you sure?" Karma still appeared concerned. "Because that sounds like a lot of bruises."
"They aren't big Karma please don't worry," Nagisa sighed, and Karma relented.
His fingers pressed to the area Nagisa gestured to, and the same freezing cold sensation that eventually evened out happened. It was strange, but as they made it through the bruises, Nagisa began to get used to it. He even relaxed. In front of him, he focused on how careful Karma was being, how meticulous and sweet he was when caring for the fallen angel's injuries.
"Only one left," Karma said, his gaze popping back to Nagisa.
Nagisa smiled. "The one on my side."
And then Karma stiffened. In a mere second, he'd swooped Nagisa into his arms, darting to the side. A blade whisked by, the metal glinting in Nagisa's sight.
"How cute," a voice drawled, "a demon healing it's fallen angel."
The couple's eyes snapped up, locking onto the purple-haired demon that was swinging it's legs while sitting perched on a tree branch. His red eyes glinted darkly.
Karma narrowed his eyes. "Kureto? Why did you think you could infringe on my property?"
The other demon gave an unreadable shrug. "I have my reasons. Anyways,"
But he never continued. Quick as a flash, he was gone.Karma and Nagisa didn't even realize they were supposed to react before Kureto grabbed Nagisa's arm. That snapped the two of them out of it. Nagisa flung out a harsh energy shield, causing the other demon to hiss and jump backwards, but he quickly recovered and lunged forward again.
Nagisa steeled himself, but in the moment he had forgotten that Karma's reflexes were even faster than his. A disturbingly violent crunch was heard and Nagisa watched as Kureto went down from behind, his red eyes taking a glazed look. Nagisa turned to Karma. The demon was seething, pulses of anger radiating off him.
Nagisa almost sighed. Could they not go a week without someone triggering Karma's anger?
All the sudden, the prominent anger dissipated. Surprised, Nagisa turned to Karma. "Karma?" He asked uncertainly.
The demon stayed stone silent for a minute, then smiled slowly. "I'm fine. Nagisa, I have an important question." His lightened smile fell and took on a serious look.
Nagisa gave him an encouraging smile, still amazed Karma had managed to kill off his anger. "Go ahead."
"Can I mark you again?"
The words washed through Nagisa's body and out before he actually processed the question completely. Mark you again. Marked as demon's prey, but not used as one. His mind flashed back to when Karma removed the mark, and he felt his cheeks redden.
"Nagisa?" Karma asked curiously.
"I...why?"
"It's convenient. I want to be able to keep other demons away easier. I don't plan on leaving you ever again, but what if you're kidnapped?" Karma said persistently.
Nagisa knew that made sense. "I guess so," he answered, stepping closer. Karma wrapped a strong arm around his fallen angel, sliding his hand up his shirt. Nagisa held still, accepting the embrace. Eventually, he felt the searing pain on his side. Nagisa winced. "On the bruise?" The one bruise Karma still hadn't healed.
"Ah, Nagisa, you don't trust me?" Karma retorted playfully.
"Of course I do," Nagisa muttered. Eventually, the sensation faded. When Nagisa looked down, he noticed the bruise was gone. Healed.
Karma allowed himself a smug smile. "It heals and marks the skin at the same time."
"So with this you'll actually let me go places on my own?" Nagisa was teasing the smug demon, but Karma's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Well, I guess you can take care of yourself, but..."
Nagisa's grinned, but his phone rang before he could reply. "Kayano?" He asked.
"Nagisa, where are you? Don't tell me you forgot today!" Kayano's annoyed voice came through the speaker. Nagisa's eyes went wide.
"I'm sorry! I did, didn't I? I'll be there in 15!" Nagisa promised, his plans suddenly popping back into his mind. Kayano had asked him to meet her at the park where she'd met Karma last time they'd met. Both of them agreed to today, but Karma had stolen away his thoughts. It had honestly slipped his mind.
He hung up and turned to Karma. The demon stood with his hands in his pockets, appearing exasperated. Nagisa pleaded with his eyes apologetically. Karma let out a little huff.
"That's pushing it, you know."
"I'll be with Kayano! Two against one!" Nagisa argued.
Karma arched an eyebrow. "And if there's two demons?"
Nagisa pointed to his hip, where the mark was.
"Tch. Don't take too long."
"Don't miss me too much."
"You know that's impossible."
Nagisa wrapped his arms around Karma in a soft embrace. "Stay here."
-
"I'm here!" Nagisa panted, dropping onto the grass next to a zoned-out Kayano. She seemed to come to life when she saw him.
"Nagisa! You're ok?"
Nagisa gave a slight smile. "You could say."
For awhile, all they did was talk. Kayano suggested they go walk around, and Nagisa agreed.
As they passed through a grove of flowering trees, sudden movement appeared in front of Kayano. She squealed, stepping back, and Nagisa was immediately on high alert. However, whatever it was had gone back out of their sight.
