"What's a pretty angel like you doing trying to interfere with my prey," purred the female demon in front of Nagisa.
He clenched his teeth, already in a defensive stance. "Stopping you, obviously."
"Really now?" She flashed him an amused grin, flicking her honey-tipped hair back. Then she was gone.
Nagisa reacted quickly, turning around and drawing his knife. Demons liked using sneak attacks, and she probably assumed him too weak or stupid to be much of a challenge. How wrong she was. After being beat by two demons, Nagisa wouldn't let this be a third time in a row.
A weight covered in a dark purple and black mist smashed into him, and he smiled slightly, enduring the pain for a bit. Had she not noticed the knife Nagisa had drawn out? The angel wrapped an arm around her in return, before plunging the holy knife deep in her back.
The demon cried out, releasing Nagisa almost instantly. Nagisa let her drop, then used his foot to turn her around and onto her back. "Like I said-" Nagisa bent down to her level, giving her a painfully innocent smile. If she were a normal human, she would've believed this look. It was so full of innocence, so sweet and childlike. This young boy hadn't stabbed her. He was just a witness.
But the demon in front of him wasn't human, and Nagisa's smile had the desired effect. She shuddered both in pain and from the chills that had risen from Nagisa's smile.
"-I'm stopping you. Should've believed me when you had the chance."With that finality, he stabbed the knife directly into her heart, the holy blade shattering her demonic essence. She dissolved into a cloud of white smoke.
"Ohh that was interesting!" A voice drawled from nearby.
Nagisa spun around, and his gaze landed on a certain red-haired demon.
Karma was leaning against the side of a building, where Nagisa's prey had been merely minutes ago.
An amused smirk was on his face."What are you doing here?" Nagisa demanded, hating the way his heart pounded just a little bit faster at the alluring glint in Karma's golden eyes.
"I'm watching you, Nagisa-chan!" Karma said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. He stepped closer to the blue-haired angel, watching his reactions and body language carefully. Karma wasn't looking to get stabbed by Nagisa's knife anytime soon.
When it appeared the angel was still frozen in the spot, Karma lifted a hand, lightly trailing his fingers down Nagisa's soft cheek. His nimble fingers twirled a strand of the blue hair before tucking it behind his ear gently."If you didn't already know, demons are very possessive. And since I marked you, you're mine. You can't blame me for wanting to check in on you." Karma purred softly, going back to running his fingers up and down the angel's cheek lightly.
Nagisa closed his eyes at the sensation, willing himself not to sigh in pleasure. Why did this simple motion feel so good when Karma did it?
"But don't..." Nagisa forced himself to step back, away from Karma's distracting touch. "Don't you have anything better to do?"
Karma looked thoughtful. "Eh? Of course I do, I just couldn't help worrying about you a bit!"
Nagisa sighed, sheathing his knife and walking towards the nearest cafe. He was hungry after that, and it wasn't like he couldn't eat human food. Perks of being an angel.
"Why do you need to worry about me? I'll be fine.""We wouldn't want a repeat with that other demon would we?" Karma flashed a devilish grin as Nagisa winced at the memory.
"Fuck you."
"Do angels get hurt if they say swear words?" Karma asked randomly, shoving his hands in his pockets and continuing to follow the angel.
"Do I look hurt? No. Do demon's get hurt from holy water and salt?" Nagisa had asked the question somewhat sarcastically, but he was honestly curious.
Karma gave the blue-haired angel a mysterious smile. "I won't say."
Nagisa thought for a moment. "What happens to the mark if one of us dies?"
"If you're thinking of ways to kill me it's not going to work," Karma warned, his golden eyes suddenly darkening.
Nagisa carefully played an innocent act, feigning hurt. "I was just curious! You're stronger than me anyways."
Karma knew he was lying. Yet something inside him decided it was be alright to tell him. "It hurts, but the mark shatters."
"Why did you mark me then? What if I just kill myself and let my soul free?" Nagisa challenged.
Karma was taken aback for a second. He's smarter than he lets on. "I won't let you kill yourself, Nagisa," Karma promised, stopping on the practically empty sidewalk. He pressed their foreheads together and trailed one hand down to his mark branded on Nagisa's skin.
Nagisa stared into Karma's fierce eyes, standing completely still. Why was it that Karma was so breathtaking?
They stared into each other's eyes, lost in their own thoughts. Karma fingers drifted over his mark, reminding Nagisa of it's presence again and again. The strange thing was, Nagisa wasn't sure he minded it now. It made him feel closer to Karma, and ironically, he liked that.
Letting go of his resolve, Nagisa leaned into Karma's touch, stepping closer. His stubborn mind refused to completely close the distance, but Karma got the cue. He gently pulled Nagisa straight against his body, holding his small frame protectively. Nagisa rested his head against Karma's chest, closing his ocean blue eyes. Karma smelled of cinnamon (lil sinnamon bun) and sugar, and it drew Nagisa more than he was willing to admit.
Karma must really be something if he can get me to lower my guard like this, Nagisa thought to himself. In this position, he was completely at the demon's mercy.
Karma was shocked at first when Nagisa leaned against him as if he craved the physical contact. Of course, he was more than happy to oblige, but this triggered thoughts to fly through his head.
He almost had Nagisa right where he wanted. The angel had taken a liking to him. He may not trust Karma completely, but he was noticeably more vulnerable should Karma try anything. Then why... why did Karma feel guilty about plotting this?
Right now, all he could think about was how nice it felt to be holding Nagisa in an embrace like this. Right now, he didn't want to kill the angel. Right now, he was content with this.
