I totally agreed with Rick. I couldn't make sense of what Firefly had been talking about. If she can turn into a Shadow, then...is she like Eclipsa? Could she become evil and take over? Now I trusted her even less than I did a few seconds ago. I couldn't help it. Then I remember what Chloe said yesterday...or was it two days ago? I don't know. Anyways, she said, "Trust is something that builds over time. Since we're not gonna be here very long, I don't think we'll ever fully and totally trust her." Now that I think about it, trust does build over time. It took days for me to fully trust Rick. It had built over time. Chloe was right. But we have known Firefly this whole time that we have been stuck here. But there's a legit reason we don't trust her. Actually, there are several reasons.
I made Chloe sleep. She didn't object as much as she normally would. Maybe she was more tired than I thought. Rick and Firefly don't want to sleep, and neither do I. So, we don't sleep. We don't really need to, really. Our battle with all the guards and commander took about...an hour? Two hours? Time is impossible to measure here. Besides, time doesn't matter when you're not in the real world. I just had a thought: If dimensions are just different world, then is Earth just a different dimension within the Dimensional Vortex?
Man, that's mind-boggling. I can't even wrap my mind around that thought. How could Earth be a different dimension? It...it's a planet in space with vast oceans and forests...Well, I guess it could be considered a dimension. But that's just so...I can't even describe it. I can't believe I just thought of that. I mean, I don't normally think of stuff like that. But since I now have so much free time, I guess I can actually ask questions about stuff.
"Hey, Rick." I say.
"Yeah?" He looks at me.
"Have you ever wondered if Earth was just another dimension within the Dimensional Vortex? I mean, it's totally different from all the other ones."
He stares at me like I'm speaking gibberish. "Huh? Where'd you get that idea?"
"I was just...I mean...I don't know. It just kind of came to me."
"Well, until just a few seconds ago, no, I hadn't considered that."
"I didn't think so."
"But, does it really matter, though? I mean, it's our home; where we should be right now. Well, where we're gonna go back to, anyway."
"Exactly."
"Earth is just another dimension, like you said." Firefly says, "It's just a strange, different world. Every dimension is different. Why would Earth not be one as well?"
Rick and I are speechless. It's not like there's anything we can say to that. My mind is on overdrive. I can't seem to think straight; my thoughts are questions mixed in with random things. I'm so confused...is it just everything settling in? Is it shock? If so, then what is it from? Everything is all jumbled up. I can't tell reality from fantasy; truth and theory; questions and answers. Ok, I think I need to calm down and just...
"Seth? You ok, man?" Rick asks me.
I shake my head a few times. "I'm ok. I just need sleep. Wake me if something happens." I find a cot and sleep like a baby.
After I wake up, I find that nothing has changed. Chloe is still asleep while Rick and Firefly just sit. They're just sitting there, staring into space. Maybe there's nothing else to talk about. Wait...how long was I asleep? A few hours maybe, but then again, maybe it was only a few minutes. I hate not being able to tell how much time has passed.
"How long was I asleep?" I ask.
"About an hour or so. I don't know." Rick answers.
"We're bored. Got any ideas on what to do?" Firefly asks me.
