They are clearly visible now. It's a pack of wolf-like things, only these are much more dangerous looking. They have red eyes that almost glow, six legs instead of four, and their claws look more like sharp hawk talons. Are they headed towards us, or are they just on a routine jog? I doubt that they are just on a jog, so I get my stuff together and get ready to run. Rick does the same. I look over, and now they have spotted us. Now they are headed towards us. Great...
"We can't out run those things. They had four more legs than we do." Rick says.
"Yeah, I realized that." I say. "If they attack, then we'll just have to stand and fight."
He curses under his breath and gets back inside the "cave." Now that they have seen us-strangers in their territory-they aren't going to be too happy. I cautiously get my bow ready with its first arrow; ready to be fired. I have been hunting before, even when it was banned. I break all the Rules.
I hear the howling of these creatures. It's like a howl of a wolf and the screech of a hawk. Are these hybrids or are they just creatures of this dimension? Well, back home they would be hybrids for sure. I shove that thought aside and wait. I hear them coming towards us. Then, out of nowhere, one is right in front of us. Its teeth are much sharper than an average dog's; one bite and you lose a hand. My heart is pounding as I wait for it to attack. It just stares at us for some reason.
"Rick, don't kill it unless it attacks." I say quietly.
I notice that he has a bronze sword in his left hand. He is left handed? I shove that thought aside and turn back to the wolf-bird thing. It does absolutely nothing. It is staring at me. I hate it when anyone, or anything, stares at me. Then it looks at Rick. It growls softly, but loud enough for us to hear. It pounces at Rick, but he quickly stabs the sword into it and it dies on impact.
"Is there some sort of poison in that thing?" I ask as he shoves the dead body away from him.
"No. Why?" He asks.
"It died on impact. You didn't even stab it in the heart."
"Maybe bronze is a deadly metal here."
"Maybe..." I say.
By then, the real trouble comes. The whole packs of hybrids surround us. They look from the dead body over to us and growl. Since there are about twenty of them, it sounds more like a chainsaw cutting into the toughest metal. They all charge at once. Immediately, I morph into an arctic wolf. I pounce on a hybrid and I kill it. One down, a lot more to go. I keep attacking and Rick keeps stabbing. This is getting harder to do because more and more come. Maybe as we go into different dimensions, our weapons transform into the most lethal metal.
I keep on attacking the hybrids but there does not seem to be an end to their numbers. I'm getting tired very fast. After about an hour, or so it seems, my snout (mouth) is covered with blood, the hybrid's blood. Unfortunately, one decides to rake its talons into my front leg. I quickly turn to that side and kill it. After a long, bloody battle their numbers start to dwindle as they see the dead bodies of their former friends. No doubt they are mad but they are the ones that brought this fight on.
Finally, the last hybrid is dead. Rick and I are a bit cut up and bloody, but not enough to kill us. I morph back into my regular self. We mutually agree that we should find a new place to hide. But, as we walk, I begin to feel lightheaded. I now remember that my arm has been bleeding like crazy, as well as my leg.
"You wouldn't happen to have any bandages, would you?" I ask Rick.
He nods. "You were quite the fighter back there."
