Rick can't believe that his plan worked. But it did. Now, he needed to focus on getting to Rosemary's. Since he wasn't in control of the reins, he was nervous. It's not like he didn't trust Seth, but he was just hoping that there weren't any soldiers at Rosemary's village. Even more, he hoped Hammer wasn't there. He saw him, with a bad knife wound. It's a wonder he is still alive. He was guessing that Seth had faced off with him. Normally, someone would've killed Hammer on the spot. Only Seth can show that much mercy and restraint.
But he didn't like the predicament he was in. He had just shown up, killed a few soldiers, and both Seth and Chloe were hurt. Wait...if Seth's hurt, then why'd I let him take the freaking reins? Oh yeah. I had to give Chloe the healing juice. Shouldn't I take control now? He thought. He was starting to notice that Seth was too tired to get them there. He had to say something. He could not let Seth die from exhaustion.
"Seth! Stop the horse! Now!" He said above the rain.
Seth didn't say anything. But he stopped Chestnut. Rick slid off. He motioned for Seth to scoot back. He did, and then Rick got back on Chestnut. He flicked the reigns. Chestnut zoomed forward. But they were met by hybrids shortly afterwards. Chestnut slowed to a stop with fright. She reared up but Rick soothed her and she calmed down. This is definitely not our lucky day, he thought. He was frozen. What should he do? Seth and Chloe were too weak to fight. Could I do this alone? He thinks, Yes, I have to. Seth can get to Rosemary if Rick told him where to go. Besides, they needed Rosemary much more than Rick did.
He should stay and fight, while Seth and Chloe ride on. This was the only way. He had to act quickly. They didn't have much time before the hybrids attacked. Rick slid of Chestnut.
"Seth, continue to go that way." He pointed forward, "I'll take care of these guys. Now go!"
"What? Are you--?" Seth began.
"Crazy? Maybe. Just go!"
Seth flicked the reins and disappeared into the rain.
Rick advanced on the hybrids. He slashed, kicked, punched, and dodged. He was winning so far. He kept his focus on them, not what was happening without him. Like Jared...Stop it, you idiot! You have more important things to worry about! He told himself. The battle was long; it seemed to last forever. But, finally, he killed the last hybrid. He ran at the speed of light in the direction Seth and Chloe were headed. He managed to catch up to them.
"Stop! Seth, stop!" He yelled.
He saw Seth look from side to side, totally confused. Then he looked down. He stopped the horse. Time seemed to stop. Rick was moving at the pace of a sloth, or so he thought. He was standing there, speechless.
"What happened? Are you-?" Seth asks.
"I'm fine. Just let me get on." Rick said.
He got on in front of Seth. With a few flicks of the reins, they were back on course. The rain was heavier, the thunder was louder, and the lightning was more often. Rick was exhausted. He felt more tired than he had ever felt before. He could hardly focus. But he kept going forward. Always forward.

It all happened so fast. The next thing I know, Rick is yelling for Seth to stop the horse. Then I see why. Hybrids surround us. The horse rears up and I almost fall off. If I wasn't clinging to Seth for dear life, then I probably would have. Then, we're racing into the rain, not knowing where we are going. Well, I didn't know where we were going. After about half an hour of riding, Rick appears next to us, yelling at Seth to stop. He yanks at the reins and the horse stops. Then Rick gets on and he is in control again.
