Chapter 14

Part Three:

Getting to the castle alive

"Seth, we have to rescue those people that are trapped. They're here because She made sure that they were here. She says that they're a 'danger to her realm.' We have to stop Her!" Chloe says.

"But how do we get in?" Rick asks.

"I don't know. But we'll find a way."

"Chloe, we need to plan and wait. We can't act now, otherwise, we'll be noticed and possibly captured." I say.

"You need to go in as slow as possible. That way, it'll look more like an accident." Firefly gives Chloe the healing herb. "She's very...how do you say it? Oh, paranoid."

"Aren't all bad guys paranoid?" Rick asks.

"That's what it seems like. If I were doing something like this, I'd be paranoid too." I say.

"If you make it look like a simple mistake due to clumsiness, then you'll have a better chance of getting at Her." Firefly says.

"She's part Shadow, we'll need light. And lots of it." Chloe says.

"How do you know this?" I ask her.

"Because I had a flashlight and, once the light hit her, she turned into a regular person in black clothes."

"So that's how we'll get Her..." Rick says.

"How will we free everyone?" I ask. Someone had to say that.

"The cells have a force field guarding it. If you touch it, you get a nice little dose of electricity. Maybe there's a special code or something to deactivate it." Chloe says.

"If there is, how would we break it?" Rick says.

"Well, we can't teleport everyone. It'd take too long."

"I agree. But there has to be another way..." I say.

"We should plan in the morning. It's not safe at night." Firefly says.

"What do you mean, 'It's not safe'? How's it not safe?" Rick asks.

"Because She could be listening in somehow."

"Fine. We'll plan in the morning." I say.

"Where am I gonna sleep?" Chloe asks.

We're all silent. We didn't think about that.

"I'll bring another bed." Firefly says.

"I'll help you with that." Rick says and they both go outside.

Chloe and I just sit there in silence. Well, there's not much to say. I look outside and see lightning in the distance. How could there be lightning here?

"Seth? What is it?" Chloe asks me.

I stare at the lightning. I'm totally mesmerized. Although, I don't know why. A sudden shake brings me back.

"Seth!"

I turn to Chloe. "Huh? What?"

"What were you staring at?" She asks me.

"Oh...uh, there was lightning over there and..." I say.

"Lightning? But how?"

I shrug. "No clue."

Firefly and Rick come back carrying an extra bed. They set it next to mine. Luckily, there's just enough room.

"Thanks, guys." Chloe says tiredly.
