"You're going to the ocean?" A familiar voice said.

We looked up to see Rick standing over us. My whole body tensed up.

"What do you want, Rick?" I asked him.

"Nothing. Oceans are more dangerous during a full moon though. Be careful." When he said that, he looked at Chloe.

"Thanks for that piece of advice. I'll be sure to keep that in mind." I said sarcastically.

"Don't worry about us, Rick. We'll be fine." Chloe said sweetly.

Rick grinned. I was itching to pin him to the ground, but I didn't.

"I'm not worried about anyone. Later." He left and sat at another desk far away from us.

When he was gone, Chloe sighed with relief. "Man that was creepy. Did you see the way he was looming over us like a vulture about to eat their food? His eyes were, like, staring into my very soul!"

I laughed. "I don't think he wants to look at your soul. It's dark and merciless. Not to mention mean." I grinned.

She punched me in the arm. "Oh please! Like you're not mean, dark, or merciless. Everyone has secrets."

I shrugged. "Maybe I am. Maybe I'm not. But I do have secrets."

She was interested in that so she sat forward. "Really? Do tell."

I leaned in too. "I was kidding. But I do know where your wand is."

"The one I...? Wait a minute...you didn't-?" Chloe said.

I held out my hand, and in it, was her wand.

She glared at me. "Seth Brian Thomas! Give it back!"

I handed it to her. The middle name did not work for me. But she liked to throw it around anyways.

"Why'd you take it?" She asked furiously.

I shrugged. "Just wanted to see your reaction."

She glared at me for a few seconds but then changed the subject, "What do you think Rick meant by 'oceans are more dangerous during a full moon'? I don't get it."

"Hmm. I don't know. But I've seen him Travel sometimes. I think he was-" I quickly wrote down the rest of my sentence.

I think he was referring to portal openings. Maybe a water dimension is more "dangerous" during a full moon.

Chloe read it and then said, "Maybe he's just saying that because oceans really are more dangerous during a full moon."

"But-"

"Yes, I know what he said. We're still going. If you won't go, then I'll go alone."

That was what I didn't like about Chloe. She was super stubborn.

"Chloe, come on. You know you wouldn't dare go alone." I said. That was a fact. She hated Traveling alone...or so I thought.

"Please Seth?" She begged, "We've never tried at an ocean."

"...Fine. But let's ask my dad."

"Since when were you the one to care about it being safe?"

"It's not that I don't normally care, it's just that we don't know about full moons and their effect."

"Fine. Ask. Then tell me what's safe and what's not." She sounded mad.

"I'm tryin' to-"

"Whatever. I'm going and you can't stop me." She got up and left. I didn't talk to her about it again. That was my mistake.

After study hall, the day blurred together. Chloe came home with me to talk to my dad. If she was still going to try to open a portal during a full moon alone, I at least wanted to know that she would be safe-or what the risks were.

We went to my house and put our stuff up. I could smell dinner cooking. No one could cook like my mom. When I got to the kitchen, I looked around for my dad. He wasn't there. Chloe went into "her" room at the time-it was really a spare room but she was here a lot so...She had said that her parents were away right now so she was going to stay here.

My mom noticed that I was looking for something and said, "What are you looking for Seth?"

"I'm lookin' for dad. Where's he at?" I asked.

"He's still at work."

I sighed and went back to my room. I turned my music up and got on my computer. I logged on to Facebook. Then I got a message. It said:

Rick: You need to take my advice seriously. I wasn't joking when I said traveling is more dangerous during full moons.

Seth: Why are you so concerned about us?

Rick: Well it's not about Chloe, if that's what you're thinkin. I heard what you 2 were talkin about. I know that its code. Don't open a portal during a full moon; it's too risky.

Seth: How do you of all people know this? You're not an expert! For all I know, you could be setting us up!

Rick: I've done it before. Don't try it; you'll get Lost.

Seth: As in dimension Lost?

Rick: Yeah. If you go alone, it's a lot harder to get out. But if you go together, it'll be easier.

Seth: Then how'd you get back if you're such an expert?

Rick: Someone found me. If Chloe wants to go alone, don't let her--go with her.

Seth: I'll worry about Chloe, thank you very much. All you need to worry about is staying away from us, got it?

Rick: Yeah, I got it. Just remember that you've been warned.

Then he got offline.

I sat back in my chair. He warned me...why? He never talked to me before all this. I was mad at him. I felt like he was setting me up. After all, he was smart enough to decipher our code. (Either that or it was too easy.)

I stared at the computer screen. I could not move. I should have told Chloe immediately, but I didn't. That was another thing I regretted. Now I really had to ask my dad about this. I didn't want Chloe to get Lost.

I didn't hear the knock on my door as I was getting up. I saw Chloe come in. She shut the door and sat on my bed. I turned my music off, faced her, and sat down.

"Hey, what's up?" I asked her.

"Did Rick chat with you?" She asked.

Now I was furious with him. "Yeah...why? Did he chat with you too?"

She nodded. "It was super creepy. He kept saying stuff like, 'you've been warned,' and 'I know what you were talking about.' He even said, 'you'll get Lost if you do.' What's his deal?"

I sat next to her. "It means we need to investigate. Please don't go alone. Promise me." I said.

"I promise. By the way, your mom said that dinner's ready."

"Let's go, then." I said.

So we went to dinner.

We all sat down and ate. My dad was home by then. What I had failed to notice was that Chloe wasn't her usual talkative self. But, in the mean time, we ate and talked. My parents really liked Chloe so they treated her like family. Finally, I had to ask my dad about full moons. But I had to ask it in the proper language. So I said,

"Hey, Dad, does the full moon effect fishing, even when you know where you're going and stuff?"

Normally, someone would have been utterly confused. But my dad was extremely sharp and knew what I meant.

"Well, not necessarily. Depends on what kind of fish you want to catch." He said.

"Why do you need to know this? Do you plan on going fishing anytime soon?" My mom asked. She's also smart and picked up right away.

"No, but when I do, I want to be fully prepared." I said.

"Why talk like this? It's old." Chloe said in a rather annoyed tone.
