There are many, many different references to classic movies present in Pokémon games throughout the first 3 Generations, such as: Stand by Me, Big, The Outsiders, The Wizard of Oz and The Lord of the Rings.

- Generation I: FRLG

In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, there's two different references depending on the gender of the character you're playing as, male or female. If you interact with the TV at your starting home, these two messages will read as followed:

• Male Character:

"There's a movie on TV. Four boys are walking on railroad tracks."

• Female Character:

"A girl in pigtails is walking down a yellow brick road."

The male version is a reference to the 1987 movie, Stand by Me, while the female version is a reference to the 1939 classic movie, The Wizard of Oz.

- Generation II: GS

In Pokémon Gold and Silver, if you interact with the TV it'll make a reference to the 1983 movie, The Outsiders:

"Stars dot the sky as two boys ride on a train."

- Generation III: RS

In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, two different references can be found within the games. One can be found by interacting with the TV, which makes a reference to the 1988 movie, Big, as it'll say:

"Two men are dancing on a big piano keyboard."

As for the final reference, by traveling to Pacifidlog Town there'll be an old man who's located in the southwestern most house and after interacting with him will make a direct reference to The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, as he'll say:

"They say, here in Hoenn, there are places called Mirage Spots. One does not simply walk into a Mirage Spot."
