CHAPTER 1
Twenty Seconds of Courage
"Sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage, just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery, and I promise you something great will come of it." ~We Bought a Zoo
I stared at my computer screen with a frown, contemplating whether or not I should upload the video of me singing "Wanted" by Hunter Hayes. I wasn't really a bad singer. I could definitely carry a tune. But there was just this one small part of me that kept me from pressing the upload button on Youtube. Eventually, I just closed my laptop, knowing that the video would be there later if I decided to upload.
I just don't know what was holding me back. I wanted to do this. Ever since I first found out about Restless Road, I had been inspired to just post a singing video. They proved to me that even if you're from a small town, you can still prosper. Nothing can hold you back from doing what makes you happy. I don't know why I was having second thoughts.
I really wanted to do this, and I knew I had to. I walked over to my computer, went to my video, and hovered over the word "upload". Was I doing the right thing? I decided to just go with it and see what would happen, and with that, I hit "upload".
Satisfied with myself for overcoming that little fear, I logged into Twitter and checked up on what was happening with Zach, Colton, Andrew, and the rest of the Roadies. Nothing new seemed to be online. With my new-found courage, I tweeted a link to my video. Nothing wrong with a little bragging, right? I decided to leave it at that, and turned off my computer. I hopped into bed and tried to fall asleep, wondering what kind of reviews my video would get.
The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed. I turned on my laptop and checked my video. It only had about 15 views. I wasn't really surprised, it was only my first video, and I wasn't expecting anything great to happen overnight. I closed YouTube and logged onto Twitter. A few of my followers had seen it, and three of them commented. The first two were just regular encouraging comments, "You did great!" and "Wow, you should post more videos!" The third comment was what really caught my eye. "Katie, you're incredible. I'm going to tweet this link to Restless Road. You should, too:)". I thought about that for a minute. I mean, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. The chances of them actually seeing the video were slim to none, and even if they did see it, it's not like they would watch it.
But they were also the ones who inspired me to start singing in the first place, and I felt like maybe I owed it to them to actually try to get them to see it. I copied the link, and started planning out what to say. I sent the tweets, turned off my laptop, and walked to my closet to get ready for the day.
