CHAPTER 5

First Impression

"You will never get a second chance to make a first impression." ~Will Rogers

"Hi," I said. "I'm Katie."

"Hi, Katie," Andrew said, shaking my hand. "I'm Andrew, this is Colton, and that's Zach." I waved and then took a seat next to Zach.

"So, are you excited for the tour?" Andrew asked.

"Yeah, I'm really excited. I've been a fan of you guys since X Factor. The fact that I'm actually getting to tour with you is incredible."

"It's really weird actually. I remember when you first tweeted Zach and he was mad about you for days. He wouldn't shut up!" Colton said, and I laughed.

"Hey, she was good," Zach defended.

"Was?" I asked with mock surprise.

"Yeah, your career has really gone downhill," Zach said with a smile.

"I wouldn't be talking if I were you," I said, and the waitress at the counter came up to us before either of us could say anything else.

"So, what'll it be?" she asked.

"Katie? What do you like?" Andrew asked.

"Oh, um, it doesn't really matter to me," I said. I was so caught up in getting ready that I totally forgot I was going to have to EAT in front of them. How was I supposed to do that? Stupid social anxiety.

"Are you okay?"

"What? Oh yeah, I'm fine," I said.

"Are you sure? You got really pale for a second there," Colton said.

"Yeah, I'm good."

The rest of the night went okay. We just talked about whatever was on our minds at the moment. They didn't ask me to say anything, they just let me pipe into the conversation whenever I wanted to. I liked that. I thought we were going to get along really well.

Soon, the night was over and it was time to go. We walked out together, and then I remembered I didn't have a ride.

"Shoot," I said, taking out my phone.

"What's wrong?" Colton asked.

"I don't have a ride home. John had a ride here arranged for me, but he never got me a ride home."

"I can take you home," Zach said. It was the first time he had spoken to me since the waitress interrupted us.

"Are you sure?" I asked. "I can just call John and have him come get me. It's fine, you don't have to."

"It's not a problem, Katie," he said.

I hesitated, but agreed. I think it was something about the way he said my name. He made it seem special, like I was the only Katie in the world.

And, with that, I followed him to his car, waving goodbye to Andrew and Colton.
