CHAPTER 19

New Song

"I only write songs about crazy love. If I go on two dates with a guy and we don't click, I'm not writing a song about that." ~Taylor Swift

The next day came and went and soon it was time for another concert. After I went on, I stayed backstage to watch. I basically knew their whole set list, so I was pretty confused when they skipped one of the songs.

I was even more confused when the band started playing a new melody, something I had never heard before.

"This is a new song that we just wrote," Andrew said. "You guys are the first ones to ever hear it!" The crowd went wild.

"I wrote it for my girlfriend, Katie," Zach said. "Yeah, we're dating! And, I really like her, okay? So, be nice. Please. Anyway, here's our brand new song!" They all screamed again, and I smiled. I can't believe he wrote me a song! This was like the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me.

The song ended and they came backstage to change outfits.

"That was beautiful," I said through the curtain.

"Zach wrote the whole thing!" Colton called.

"It was really sweet," I said. Zach emerged, and I hugged him. "Thank you," I said.

"Anytime," he winked, and then walked back onstage. Oh, the things I would do for that boy.

After the concert, we headed back to the tour bus. We were heading to Pennsylvania, and we were going to spend about a week there before the next concert. Zach's family lived there, and they wanted to give us a chance to see them for a while before we went abroad. They invited all 4 of us to stay with them, which I thought was crazy, but I didn't really mind because I got to spend more time with Zach.

The next day, we arrived at Zach's house. I was nervous about meeting his parents and sisters, and he could tell.

"They're going to love you," he whispered as we walked up to the door.

"What if they don't?" I whispered back.

"They will, but if they didn't, I would still love you." I was still unsure, but had no time to respond. Zach opened the door and the four of us were greeted by his family. His mom came over and hugged each of them, and then came up to me.

"And you must be Katie," she said, and I nodded. She hugged me, too. "It's nice to finally meet you."

"You, too," I said. I met the rest of the family, and then Olivia showed me to my room.

"Thank you," I said, and put my bags down. I followed her back to the living room where everyone else was, and I sat next to Andrew.

"So, how's the tour?"

"It's been great," Colton said. "There's been a positive response so far."

"Katie, too," Zach said. "Her album sales have skyrocketed."

"Really?"

"Yeah," I said. "I've gotten a lot of fans since the tour started."

"That's wonderful."

For the rest of the night, we mostly talked about the tour. I went up to my room, and Olivia asked if she could come, too. We started talking about music and friends and life, etc. Eventually, the topic of Zach and I came up.

"So, how did you guys get together?" Olivia asked me.

"I don't really know," I said. "We were just really good friends right away, and then we both kind of started liking each other, and now we're dating."

"How did he ask you out?" she asked. I told her how they sent me on a scavenger hunt into the woods and how they all sang to me and how Zach asked me.

"That's so cute!" she squealed.

"I know," I said. "I still can't believe it actually happened."

"Well, Zach's sweet like that, I'm not surprised," she said. "I think I'm gonna go to bed. See you tomorrow."

"Goodnight," I said. She walked out, and then Zach walked in.

"Oh, hey," I said.

"She didn't bother you too much did she?" he asked.

"Oh, not at all," I said. "She's really nice." He nodded.

"I was just coming to say goodnight."

"Oh, okay. Well, goodnight," I said, getting up to hug him.

"If you need anything, I'm just across the hall. I made sure my mom gave you this room, just in case something happened and you needed me or something, I mean you never know-"

"Zach."

"what could happen. Someone could break in, or you could like fall off the bed and break your leg-"

"Zach."

"Or maybe there's like an earthquake or something and the house collapses, or you might get too cold or something, or-"

I pressed my lips to his in an effort to shut him up. I pulled away, but kept our foreheads together.

"I was rambling, wasn't I?" he asked, chuckling.

"Yeah, you were."

"Well, goodnight, Katie."

"Goodnight, Zach," I said. He backed away, his eyes twinkling, and left the room, shutting the door behind him.

Maybe this wasn't so bad after all.
