CHAPTER 15

She's a Keeper

"It's not about having a perfect relationship, it's about finding someone who matches you and will go through everything without giving up."

Zach stayed with me for about an hour. We just laid there, cuddling and talking, until Andrew came back and interrupted us.

"Sorry to bother you," he said. "I don't want to open this curtain because I don't know what's going on back there, and I don't need to be scarred for life, but Katie, John wants to talk to you. He's up front."

Zach got up and I followed. I walked to the front of the bus, ignoring the weird looks from Andrew and Colton.

"Hey, John, what's up?" I said.

"Well, I just thought I'd let you know that after the concert last night, we had a huge increase in sales."

"Seriously?! That's awesome!"

"Congratulations," John said, smiling. "I'm so proud of you. Alright, I'll see you in a few days at soundcheck!" he said, and then left. I walked back into the main living area and sat down next to Zach, making sure to leave some distance between us.

"What did he want?" Andrew asked.

"After the concert last night, my album sales increased tremendously. It's pretty exciting," I said with a smile.

"That's awesome!" Andrew said.

"Congratulations, Katie," Colton said. I looked at Zach, eyebrow raised, waiting for him to say something. He didn't. He just grabbed my hand. I didn't pull away, and for once, no one said anything.

"I think I'm gonna go call Danielle and Sapna," I said. "I'll be back soon."

"Can I come?" Zach asked.

"Um, not right now, but you can say hi after I'm done talking to them," I said, and Zach made a pouty face. "Hey, at least I'm letting you talk to them." I walked to the back of the bus and got into my bunk, then called Dani and Sapna.

"Hey, Katie!" Sapna said.

"What's going on with you guys?" I asked.

"Well, I'm watching my brother and his friend Kyle play hockey outside. I have the perfect view from my window," Sapna said.

"I'm writing fanfiction," Danielle said.

"Oh, you finally got around to writing that, did you?" I said, laughing.

"Yeah, yeah," she said. "So, what about you? How's Zach?"

"Great, actually. Since I last talked to you, we've almost kissed, and then we actually did kiss, and now there's dating rumors."

"What?! You kissed?!" Danielle asked.

"Details, now!" Sapna said.

"So, we were hanging out in my hotel room and right before he left I told him he was my favorite and then he tried to kiss me, but I pulled away. I told him I didn't want to get hurt again, and I didn't want to rush things. Then, before the concert yesterday, I was literally freaking out, and he just pulled me in and kissed the heck out of me. One day, we went to the park and we were holding hands, and somehow a picture ended up online and now everyone thinks we're dating, but we're not."

"Why?" Sapna asked. "I thought you liked him."

"I do, obviously. I don't know," I said. "Speaking of Zach, he wants to say hi to you. Be cool, please. I'm gonna go get him," I said, and walked over to the door. I was about to turn the handle, but then I heard my name. "Hang on, guys," I whispered. "They're talking about me." I put my ear to the door and listened.

"Why don't you just ask her out?" Andrew asked.

"She won't say yes. She already told me she doesn't want to go out yet."

"I don't understand," Colton said. "If she likes you, she should want to date you."

"Me neither, but I have a feeling there's something she's not telling me. I'm just going to wait until she's ready," Zach said.

"Why do you like her?" Andrew asked. "It's not that I don't like her, I'm just wondering."

"I don't know," Zach started. "We just... click. She likes the same things I do, and she has this really sarcastic sense of humor... And when she looks at me, I can just tell she likes me, you know? She just has that look... And she's incredibly beautiful..."

"Why don't you tell her that?" Colton suggested. I opened the door before he could say anything else. They all froze.

"Wanna say hi?" I asked and passed Colton the phone. I sat down next to Zach and waited for them to be done talking to Danielle and Sapna.

They passed my phone around and finally, about 15 minutes later, I was able to hang up the phone. I sighed and leaned on Zach's shoulder. "I'm tired," I said.

"It's only like 10 AM," Andrew said.

"I know, but I'm still tired. I haven't gotten much sleep the past few days. Too busy freaking out to sleep."

"Go take a nap," Colton said.

"It's too much effort to actually get up and walk over there," I said, and he chuckled.

"Just sleep on Zach, then. I'm sure he wouldn't mind," Colton said with a wink. I rolled my eyes, but turned over to Zach anyway. I shimmied under his arm so that it was around my shoulder, turned, and draped my feet over him. Then, I cuddled into his chest and closed my eyes. He started playing with my hair. A few minutes later, my phone vibrated. Zach handed it to me.

It was a tweet from Andrew. "Looks like you've got yourself a keeper @zachbeeken :)" And below it, there was a picture of me laying on Zach and Zach playing with my hair. I just shook my head, smiled, and returned to how I was.

I could get used to this, Zach Beeken.
