CHAPTER 20

Perfect

"I'm captivated by you, baby, like a fireworks show." ~Sparks Fly

I woke up the next morning and walked downstairs. It looked like only Zach was awake.

"Good morning, beautiful," he said, kissing me.

"Morning," I said, smiling.

"So, I was thinking," he started. "Are you doing anything tonight?"

"Not that I know of," I said.

"Well, you've got yourself a date tonight," he said.

"But, don't you want to spend time with your family and friends?" I asked.

"Of course I do," he started, taking my hand. "But we've never been on a real date yet, and I want to show you around my hometown."

"That's sweet, Zach, really, but I think you should go out with your friends instead, or spend time here with your family. You haven't seen them in forever; you get to see me every day."

"But you're my best friend, and hopefully, someday you'll be my family. I just want to spend time with you. Just tonight."

I sighed. "If you really want to..."

"I do," he said.

"Okay," I sighed. He kissed me again, and picked me up and brought me over to the couch. Zach started being really cute, and I couldn't help but giggle. I wish it was just the two of us more often. Eventually, Zach looked up.

"Oh, hey, Mom," he said. "How long have you been standing there?" I turned around, and saw Mrs. Beeken standing in the doorway.

"Long enough," she said, smiling. "I was just letting you know that I was starting to make breakfast. I'll let you know when it's ready." She walked into the kitchen, leaving us alone once again.

Later that day, I was in my room, trying to decide what to wear on my date with Zach later. It was supposed to be warm today, but I figured it would probably be a little chilly, since it was late at night. I picked out a light blue dress with a heart cut out in the back. I put it on, and started heating up my curling wand. Suddenly, I heard a knock at the door. "Yeah?" I called. The knob turned and Mrs. Beeken walked in. Oh, geez, what did I do?

"What'cha doing?" she asked.

"Oh, I'm just getting ready. Zach's taking me on a date tonight." She smiled.

"Where?"

"I'm not sure. He wouldn't tell me. I mean I didn't even want to go in the first place, and now he won't even tell me where we're going!" I said.

"Why didn't you want to go?" she asked, concerned.

"I don't know, I just didn't want to pull him away from you guys. I mean, this was supposed to be time for him to visit you guys, and visit his friends that he hasn't seen in a while, not to hang out with me. He sees me every day."

"You really like him, don't you?" she asked.

"Yeah, I do," I said, looking down. "I like him a lot."

"I've never seen him so crazy about a girl before, either," she said. "I'm glad he picked you, though." I smiled.

"Thank you," I said. "It means a lot."

"I have a necklace that would look adorable with that dress," she said. "Would you like to borrow it?"

"Sure," I said. She left the room to go get it, and I sat down to curl my hair. I decided to do loose waves. I was about halfway done when she came back. I finished curling my hair, and then she put on the necklace.

"Wow, it's beautiful," I said. "Thank you for letting me borrow it."

"Oh, no problem. Now, we better get you downstairs. I'm sure Andrew and Colton are almost finished getting Zach ready." I followed her downstairs, and saw Zach in the entryway. I have to admit, he looked really good. He looked at me in awe, and I blushed.

"Oh, I have to take a picture!" Mrs. Beeken said. "My little Zachy is all grown up!"

"Mom..." he said. She ran to get the camera, and I started laughing. She came back and we took literally 100 pictures. First, it was me and Zach, then it was Restless Road, then it was me, Andrew and Colton, then it was Zach and his sisters, then it was me and his sisters, then it was me and his dad, then it was Zach and his dad, then Zach and his mom, and finally me and his mom. Zach was finally able to get us out of his house, and we headed into his car.

"So, am I allowed to know where you're taking me yet?" I asked.

"Nope," he said. As we drove, he pointed out different parts of his town, sometimes telling me a story of something that had happened there. I was intrigued by everything, like a little kid in a candy shop. We finally arrived at what looked like a fancy restaurant.

"My parents took me here before I auditioned for X Factor," he said. "I sort of think it brings good luck." We walked in and were brought to a table near the back. It was lit only by candles, and there were roses as a centerpiece.

"Ooh, romantic," I said. We sat on opposite sides of the table, and both ordered the day's special, since Zach said it was his favorite.

"Where'd you get that necklace?" Zach asked, looking down.

"Oh, your mom gave it to me when I was getting ready. She's letting me borrow it for tonight."

"I thought it looked familiar," he said. "It's beautiful. My dad gave that to her when they started dating."

"It must be really special to her," I said.

"It is. She won't even let Olivia wear it. I'm surprised she gave it to you." I looked down and smiled. "I told you she'd like you."

"Yeah, I guess that really worked out in my favor, huh?" I said. The food arrived, and we started eating. When we were done, Zach paid and we walked back to his car.

"Ready for part two?" he asked.

"There's a part two?" I asked,

"Of course!" he said. He drove a little while until we arrived at a park. I got out and he went to the trunk, pulling out a blanket. He grabbed my hand and we walked to the middle of the park, spread out the blanket, and laid down. He put his arm around me, and we looked up at the stars.

"This is beautiful," I whispered. He just pulled me closer, and we stared up at the stars.

"Do you ever wonder what's out there?" he asked. "You know, if there's another you on another planet, or something?"

"Sometimes," I admitted. "It's weird to think about, but anything's possible. I can't even imagine all the possibilities."

We stared up at the sky for a while longer, and then he looked at me. "Ready for part three?" he whispered, and pointed up at the sky. Suddenly, fireworks started to off. I looked around, but couldn't see anyone. It was our own private little fireworks show.

The fireworks exploded in a variety of colors, from orange to red, to blue and green. They lasted about ten minutes. When the last one exploded, I turned to Zach.

"Ready for part four?" I asked. He was confused. I leaned in and pressed my lips to his. Our lips moved perfectly in sync. I ran my fingers through his hair, deepening the kiss. It was a moment I never wanted to end. We finally pulled away, both of us breathless, our foreheads still touching. He brushed his lips against mine once more, before pulling me into his arms once again.

It was the perfect end to the perfect night.
