CHAPTER 33

I Miss You

"They say when you are missing someone, they are probably feeling the same, but I don't think it's possible for you to miss me as much as I'm missing you right now." ~Edna St. Vincent Millay

The next few days weren't all that fun. It was the middle of summer, and all my friends were on vacation or they had other plans and couldn't hang out, so I was pretty much alone.

I missed the boys, specifically Zach, so, so much. Yeah, we FaceTimed every night, but it wasn't the same. I couldn't be in his arms like I used to.

So I basically spent the first week up in my room, eating food and watching Netflix.

Then, vacations ended and schedules cleared up and now I have plans for almost every night this week. I was invited to party after party, which was something new to me. I'd never been popular before, but now, all of them wanted to hang out with me. Everyone.

I knew it was just because of my rising fame, though. Deep inside, I knew that I was still the shy, quiet girl they once knew, and I'd always be that girl. And, because of that, my schedule suddenly seemed to clear up.

Why would I go to all these parties of people that've talked to me once in my life? Why would I suddenly stoop down to their level? I wasn't going to do that. I knew who my real friends are, and I didn't need to hang out with them just because they were "popular".

I texted Danielle and Sapna and we decided to have a girl's night. I'll admit, I missed having these. Being the only girl on tour, I did get lonely sometimes. Boys don't always understand how girls work.

An hour or so later, Danielle and Sapna arrived at my house. We hopped into my car and headed to the mall.

"So, tell us about the tour!" Danielle said. "What's new?"

"Uh, well, Colton left the band... And they're looking for a new member. They're hoping to find him before the tour, so they only have a month to find the perfect guy and teach him the choreography and everything. It's going to be tough, but they'll manage."

"Wow, that's surprising," Danielle started. "I wonder why he left?"

"He said it was because he wanted a solo career, which I can totally understand. He wanted to go solo all along, and dreams never really change." I noticed Sapna had been quiet this whole time. "Sapna, what's up? Why are you so quiet? Daydreaming about Nick?"

"No..." she said, blushing and looking down.

"How are things going with him?"

"Pretty good, actually. We've been officially dating for about 2 weeks now."

"Awh... That's so cute!" I squealed. "And Danielle, what about you?"

"Well... I've been talking to-"

"WHO?!!"

"Um.. His name's Cole."

"Cole from school?"

"Yeah, Cole from school.." she said.

"THAT'S SO CUTE!" I said as we pulled into the parking lot of the mall. "Where to first ladies?"

The night went by way too fast. We ran into my house later that night, laughing and collapsing on my bed with our many shopping bags. We weren't THAT girly and didn't shop every weekend like some girls do, but we could definitely buy a million things when we did go.

We sat there for a while, talking, when my phone rang. It was Zach.

"I'm going to go take this outside," I said. I got up and walked into the hallway, closing the door behind me. I hit accept.

"Hi," I said.

"I miss you so much," Zach said.

"I miss you, too... But how are you?"

"I'm great, actually, besides being away from you. We're auditioning for a new member over the next few days, and we hope to choose one a week from now."

"That's great news!" I said. "How many people are auditioning?"

"Well, we were able to narrow it down to a couple hundred just by going through the videos they sent us in. Now, we're going to hear them live, and hopefully, we'll be able to find the perfect one."

"Well, keep me updated."

"I will. How's your day been?"

"Pretty good. Danielle, Sapna, and I went shopping earlier. It was really fun, I've missed seeing them so often."

"Are you still with them?"

"Yeah, they're in my room."

"Oh, well I'll let you go, then," he said. "You can always text me instead."

"If you want..."

"Yeah, spend time with them. You haven't seen them for a while."

"Alright, bye, Zach. I love you."

"Love you, too, Katie. Talk to you soon."

I hung up the phone and sat in the hallway for a while, trying hard not to think about how much I missed Zach. When I final composed myself, I headed back into my room, hoping Danielle and Sapna could take my mind off of it.
