CHAPTER 14

We're Not!

The next morning, I packed up all of the stuff from the hotel room and brought it out to the tour bus. We had about 2 days, sometimes 3, in between shows. Today was one of those days off, but we had to spend it travelling to another city. It was okay, though, because it gave us some time to relax.

I went into the main living area of the tour bus and sat down with my laptop, trying to get a little school work done before we started driving. I decided to do math first, because that had always been pretty easy for me. Of course, as soon as I started, I heard the guys talking outside, and then saw them walk onto the bus.

"Oh, hey, Katie. How long have you been here?" Colton asked.

"Like half an hour," I said. "I'm just finishing some homework." They walked in and Colton went to the back of the bus, where the beds were, Andrew sat next to me, and Zach sat on the couch opposite us. I had just finished my math and I decided to check Twitter.

"I thought you were doing homework?" Andrew said.

"I was. I just finished it."

"Oh. Well, what's new on Twitter?" he asked.

"Not much." I scrolled through my timeline, looking at all the Tweets. Something that Jake tweeted caught my eye. It said, "Guys I think Zach and Katie are dating look", and there was a picture of us holding hands at the park. How did he even get that? I typed in "zach and katie" in the search bar. There were hundreds, even thousands of similar tweets, such as:

"Are Zach and Katie dating?"

"I ship #zatie so hard."

"Katie better STAY AWAY FROM ZACH HES MINE"

There were many others, but they generally fell into those three categories.

"Woah," I whispered, hoping no one would hear. Andrew looked down from the movie he and Zach were watching and scooted closer to me to see what I was looking at. I tried to change the screen but he pulled my hand away before I could do so.

"Are you going to tell them?" he asked.

"There's nothing to tell," I said quietly.

"Wait, you guys aren't dating?" he said, looking at me and Zach.

"Not officially," Zach said.

"You act like you're dating."

"But we're not," I said, as Colton walked back in.

"Colton, did you know that Zach and Katie aren't dating?" Andrew asked him.

"I thought they were?"

"Why does everyone think that?" I asked. "We don't even act like it!"

"Yes, you do," Andrew said. "Obviously the fans think so, too."

"Wait, what?" Zach asked.

"There's a bunch of rumors that we're dating going around. Check Twitter," I told him.

"Okay, but the real question here is why aren't you dating?" Colton asked. Zach shrugged and shook his head, so they turned to me.

"Um," I started. How was I supposed to word this...? "I guess I don't wanna rush into anything and regret it later."

"I think there's something you're not telling us," Andrew said. They were all looking at me. This was really stressing me out.

I looked down. "It's nothing, really. I just... don't want to get hurt again. I don't want to talk about this," I said, getting up and walking to the back of the bus. I found the bed with my stuff on it, and sat down, closing the curtain. I really just needed to be alone right now. I heard footsteps. Great.

"Hey, Katie, can we talk?" It was Zach.

I sighed. "I... guess," I said, and opened the curtain. I scooted closer to the wall so he could lie down next to me.

"Look, I'm sorry for them. They don't understand what you're going through. I mean you know what I want, and they're obviously going to be on my side since we're best friends. Just, I'm sorry if they try to pressure you into anything."

"It's okay," I said. I moved closer to him and he pulled me into his chest.

"It's really not," he said. It was silent for a while. "I know this probably won't change anything, but I just want you to know that I don't want to hurt you. I'm not going to hurt you. I know what it feels like, and I don't want to cause that kind of pain on anyone. You have my heart, Katie. I'm just waiting on you to give me yours."

Oh, but what you don't know, Zach Beeken, is that you've had my heart since day one. It's always been yours, and it always will.
