CHAPTER 26
More Problems
"When you can prove to him that you can live without him, that's when he wants you back into his life."
I woke up the next morning wrapped in Zach's arms. I tried to get out of his strong grip without waking him up, but it didn't work very well. His eyes opened and he smiled.
"Morning, beautiful," he said.
"Morning," I replied. I checked the time. It was 11.
"I'm going to go call my mom and see how Olivia's doing," he said, getting up. I followed him downstairs and saw Danielle, Sapna, Colton, and Andrew talking.
"Nice to see you're finally up," Sapna said.
"Yeah, had a busy night, eh?" Andrew said, smirking.
"Yeah, all night," I said with a straight face, not amused. He just looked at me.
"Ew."
"Moving on," I said. "What did you guys do last night?"
"Well, we were just going to go out for dinner, but then I got invited to go to Haley's party, so we went there instead. It was honestly really fun," Danielle said.
"So, are you guys like dating officially now, or what?" I asked, pointing at Dani and Colton.
She blushed and looked down. "No."
"Yeah, I mean it's going to be hard, seeing as I'm going on tour and I won't see her for a long time."
"Yeah," I said, not necessarily agreeing with his logic. It seemed kind of stupid to me. Why couldn't they just try long distance?
"But Sapna found herself a boy last night! His name is Nick!! He's so cute," Danielle gushed.
"Aww, that's adorable!" I said, right as Zach walked back in. He motioned me to come into the kitchen, so I did.
"The medicine's working. She's going to be okay," he said.
"That's great, I'm so glad. See, I told you it was going to be okay." He hugged me and we walked back into the living room.
"So, we're leaving at 3 to go to Chicago, so we only have about 4 hours left. We should probably pack first and then we can hang out with whatever time we have left," I said. I went upstairs and got everything ready. Unfortunately, I brought a lot of stuff home, so it took me about 3 ½ hours to get everything together, packed, and put onto the tour bus. I walked back into the house and got ready to say my goodbyes.
I said goodbye to my mom first. She started crying, which made me cry, and I promised her that I'd come home soon.
Next, was Sapna. I hugged her and told her good luck with Nick. Hopefully, I'd get to meet him sometime soon.
Finally, I came to Danielle. She hugged me and we said our final goodbyes, which made me cry harder. Even though we could always talk on the phone, it wasn't the same as being with them in person.
I got onto the tour bus and walked straight to my bunk, wanting to be alone. I decided to watch a movie, so I picked Safe Haven. It probably wasn't the best idea, considering how upset I already was, but I watched it anyway.
When the movie was over, I wiped my eyes and walked to the front of the bus. I sat next to Zach. It looked like they were playing a video game of some sort. I just watched, though. I wasn't really in the mood to talk or anything.
We arrived in Chicago and checked in at our hotel. Zach came into my room and waited for me to get ready, and then we walked outside to explore the city.
"You've been to Chicago before, right?" I asked.
"Yeah," he said. "I love it here." We decided to go to the Willis Tower first. We took a LOT of pictures on the glass balcony. We spent the rest of the night going to various places, just messing around and having fun. Needless to say, I was NOT excited when my mood was ruined by the one person I absolutely hated, Matt. Zach and I were just sitting on a bench in a park, talking to ourselves quietly, when of course, he shows up.
"Oh, hey, Katie! Fancy seeing you here," he said.
"Yeah," I replied.
"I don't mean to be rude, but do you think we could talk for a minute?"
"Whatever," I said, getting up to follow him. "What could you possibly want now? Haven't you ruined my life enough?"
"THAT'S the guy you're with? Him? Seriously? You can do so much better."
"I don't need anyone better."
"He's never going to be like me, Katie. You realize that don't you?"
"Yeah, that's the point. I never want someone like you again," I said. "I don't need to be hurt that way again."
"I'm not going to hurt you again. He will."
"That's fine, I'm taking that risk and you should just stay out of my business and let me be with who I want. If you really loved me, you'd just want me to be happy, whether it was with you or without you, and obviously that's not what's happening," I said.
"I do want you to be happy. I'm just warning you of what's going to happen if you stay with him."
"Nothing's going to happen, Matt. And you don't even know him anyways, you can't even have a clue of what he's like or how he acts around me, therefore proving my point." He sighed.
"You're making this difficult."
"Good," I said. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a date to get back to." And with that, I turned around and walked away, hoping that he'd be out of my life for a long time.
