Shutting out the World

NO ONES P.O.V

What do you do when the most precious thing in the world has bene taken from you? What if; like in Emily and Daniels case you couldnt do anything about it? There are so many different answers to that question. Some people would just cry, non stop. Other people eat or get drunk. Some do drugs and go out all night tyring to forgte about what is missing. Some people shut the whole world out. This is exactly what Emily had done.

It had been two days since the discovery of the babys clothing, and the chance that he was still alive was so small it was hardly there. Daniel was trying to stay strong, for Emilys sake. He put on a brave face but on the inside he was falling apart.

Emily hadnt slept, since they found the clothing. Nor eaten. Daniel could tell she was falling ill but she couldnt deal with the fact her baby was gone. She shut out everyone and barely spoke a word to anyone. Her way of dealing wiht it was not moving on. The longer she shut out the world, the longer she could have thinking about Thomas.

There was a constant battle raging between Emily and Daniel. He wanted to look after Emily, tell her everyting would be okay. But deep down she knew it wouldnt be okay and she was preparing herself for the phone call saying they found the body. And deep down she was already suffereing form teh five stages of grief.

First comes denial; that her baby was gone. Second comes anger; the anger she had at herself for leaving him alone in that car where he was taken. Third comes bargaining; that she could fix this problem somehow by agree wiht another. Then comes depression. Emily was definatly depressed and couldnt deal with it. They say the final stage of grief is aceptance but she was unterly convinced she would never except what had hapened and would never be able to move on. And that is why she was shutting herself away from everyone else.

"Please eat something Emily," Daniel asked putting the plate of toast infront of her.

She didnt utter a word, instead just shoke her head twice.

"I dont want you sick Em," he said grabbing her hand.

"I'll be fine," she said quietly looking out the window.

"Emily you need to stop this," he said.

"Stop what Daniel?!" she snapped coldly.

"You just have to acept hes gone now, that hes in a better place," he said.

"You know I cant do that," she said trying to hold back tears.

"Why not?" he asked.

She looked him dead in the eye.

"Because that means I have to let go. I have to say goodbye," she said quietly crying.

"Its time to move on," he said softly pullling her into a hug.

"I cant believe he is gone," she said bursting into tears and crying into his chest.

"I know Em, I know," he said crying into her hair.

They both sat there on the bed crying for what must have been hours until they fell asleep cradled in each others arms. It wasnt until it had reached dark; that Emily awoke to the sound of Daniels phone.

"Charlotte?" she asked answering it.

"Hey. Em. How are things going?" she asked slowly.

"I think we are going to come back home," she said trying not to cry.

"Are things that bad?"

"Even if they find him Charlotte, he's not going to be alive," she said letting the tears fall down her eyes.

"oh Em," she said speechless.

The silence in the hotel room was interupted by the loud ring of Emilys mobile phone. She wiped her eyes and looked at the phone realising it was Rebecca.

"Charlotte I have to go," she said not taking her eyes off the phone.

"Is everything ok?"

"Uh yeah, its just the detective is calling. I uh need to go," she said.

She hung up the phone quickly and exhaled deeply. She stared at the phone knowing what Rebecca was going to say wouldnt be good. Some part of her didnt want to pick it up. Ignore it and put off what was going to be said. Yet, something told her she should answer it and she moved her hand to pick up the phone.

"Rebecca," she said slowly.

"Emily," she replied just as slowly.

Emily had already beagn crying.

"What is it?" She asked in a shaky voice.

"We found something."
