Shock
Katie's eyes widened.
She was in shock.
Her jaw was basically on the ground.
Maggie and Glenn had stopped laughing.
The only sound that could be heard was a small, steady heartbeat coming from the speaker.
"That's impossible," Katie said quickly.
"Apparently not," Harlan sighed.
"I just got my period---" Katie said, starting to do the math in her head.
"Shit," Katie said, realizing the the timing matched up.
"But I haven't had any symptoms," Katie said to Harlan.
"I guess you're just one of the lucky women who don't have any symptoms," Harlan said gently.
"Okay. Okay. Okay," Katie said repeatedly, trying to convince herself that everything was okay.
She had so many mixed emotions. She was happy, but also incredibly panicked.
"Katie, this is a good thing. We're safe now. Everything's going to be okay. We're in this together," Maggie said, rubbing Katie's back gently.
"Can you tell from the sonogram how far along I am?" Katie asked.
"I would say that you are about two months along," Harlan said, looking at the screen.
Katie nodded slowly.
She was still in shock.
According to what Harlan just said, she got pregnant around the time that they first got to Alexandria.
"Well I guess it's a good thing I didn't drink at Deanna's party then," Katie said with a strained chuckle.
She didn't know what to say or do so she just made bad timed jokes.
"Glenn, you better keep your mouth shut. You can't keep a secret if your life depends on it. I'll be the one to tell Rick, not you," Katie said slowly.
Harlan printed out the sonogram for her.
"Do you want this?" Harlan asked, holding out the picture.
Katie nodded slowly.
She hid the picture in her jacket.
"Are you okay?" Maggie asked her quietly.
"I'm having a baby," Katie said, a weak smile appeared on her face.
"That's a good thing," Maggie said.
"Yeah. It is. I just wasn't prepared for this. You know?" Katie said to Maggie.
"I know. But this is good. You guys deserve the chance to build a life," Maggie said.
