Sick

Katie pushed her body towards the cell block full of sick people.

She threw herself through the door.

"Katie? No. No," Carol, who was the gatekeeper, cried out.

Carol was close to tears.

"I'm sorry, Car," Katie cried.

She threw herself through the open door.

She started to cough violently.

"Katie?" Glenn asked, his voice weak and distorted.

Katie started to cry.

He led her to a cell, even though he could barely walk himself.

He sat Katie down on a bed.

"Rick doesn't know. Rick doesn't know," Katie said repeatedly, still sobbing.

Carol ran from her post. She ran through the prison until she found Rick.

Carol was out of breath.

She grabbed on to Rick's arm.

"It's Katie," she said, struggling to breathe.

Rick took off sprinting towards the cell block where the sick were being held.

He ran faster than he ever had before.

He finally got to the door of the cell block.

He pressed the palms of his hands against the glass window.

"Katie! Katie!" Rick screamed through the glass.

The glass was basically soundproof, but she heard him faintly in her cell.

Katie stood up weakly and dragged her weakened body to the window.

"Oh Katie," Rick said, his blue eyes filling with tears.

They didn't fall. They just stayed in his eyes.

"I'm sorry," Katie said weakly.

"No. Don't be sorry," Rick said, shaking his head.

"Daryl is going to bring back medicine. He's going to make everything better. Okay? I promise you're going to be okay," Rick rambled.

"Don't worry about me," Katie said weakly.

"Too late." Rick said.

"The kids? How are they? Are they okay?" Katie asked.

"They're just fine. Judith is locked in quarantine. Beth is taking care of her. Carl is in quarantine. He's protecting everyone," Rick said.

Tears started to roll down Katie's face.

"He's strong. He'll make it in this world. Judith really is a little ass kicker. She'll grow up in this world. It will make her strong. She needs you and Carl to teach her how to be strong. Promise me you'll take care of them and of yourself," Katie said, crying.
