This is the first chapter of my new story, I do hope you'll like it and it's almost done, so I'll try and upload quite quickly.. please tell me what you think.. leave a vote or a comment! :D I look forward to them..

I looked into the mirror, my long black hair braided on my back and my bright blue eyes staring back at me. I was thin, I didn’t have to do much for it. I could eat a horse, but I was absolutely small. Only a small month ago I had finished my veterinary exams and received my diploma. I was looking for work, but it was tough, no one would hire anyone because it cost too much. I could start my own practice but that cost me too much.

‘Dawn, come down! It’s time for lunch,’ my mother yelled up the stairs.

Dawn Matthews, that’s me. I’m twenty three years old. My mother and father, David and Rhea Scott, were amazing, but they weren’t my real parents. When I was twelve my mother, Rhea, had told me I was left on the doorstep to a church as a baby and that they had given me to child services. I had been given to the Scott’s when I was two years old, so I still saw them as my dear parents.

‘Dawn!!’ Rhea called again.

I hurried myself down and sat down at the kitchen table.

‘Sorry, I was just thinking,’ I said, giving her a sweet smile.

Rhea had set the table with a lot of food, they had grown used to my massive appetite, I never missed a meal. We ate our lunch and I told her I had another job interview today. She wished me luck and while she cleared the table I went upstairs to my room. I grabbed my handbag, tossed in my wallet, my agenda and keys. I kissed Rhea goodbye and got into my second-hand car. I loved it, but I wasn’t very good with names, it drove and I knew how to, so I was happy. I drove into town, we lived in a small village near a large town. About a mile west, we had the beaches and on the other side we had a large mountain, overgrown with a forest. I arrived into town and searched for the company I had applied to. It was a job being a receptionist, because there weren’t many jobs as a veterinarian. They had replied very quickly when I applied, we set up a date only friday and now I was on my way.

I found the building and parked my car. I adjusted my skirt and stuck a loose strand of hair behind my ear. When I entered the building I immediately felt a little strange, they tried to hide it, but everyone was staring at me. I walked over to the reception, a woman with a large pregnant belly was sitting there, she was calling. I noticed that when I arrived at her desk, she breathed in deeply and snapped her head up at me. She gave me a confusing smile and held up her hand, to say I had to wait for a moment. I gave her a curt nod and she kept talking. I didn’t listen, I didn’t want to be impolite.

‘You really need to get out of here,’ a little voice in my head told me.

Oh, did I forget to tell you? I’m kind of crazy. I have a voice in my head and several psychiatrists have tried to get it away, but she always gave me such good advice and she never left.

‘No, I have an interview,’ I replied and stopped listening to her continues nagging that I needed to leave.

‘Miss Matthews?’ the woman at the reception asks me.

‘Yes?’ I asked, taking a step closer to the counter.

‘You are expected on the top floor. Ask for mister Woods,’ she said, offering another confused smile.

‘Thank you,’ I replied and gave her a genuine smile.

I walked over to the elevator next to the counter and pressed the button. Every time I looked around, I was sure I saw people quickly look away. The bell announced my elevator had arrived, I got in and pressed the top button, the doors closed and it went up to the highest floor, fifteen stories up. It didn’t stop on the way. I checked my appearance again in the mirror in the elevator and I looked normal, so I didn’t understand why everyone seemed to stare at me. I got to the top floor and got out of the elevator, there were several doors and at the end of the hall was another reception. I went to the desk, but I didn’t see anyone to manage it. I waited there for a moment when one of the doors opened.

‘Miss Matthews?’ A voice boomed through the hall.

He didn’t sound angry, but very powerful. My heart stopped, I felt a knob in my stomach and I felt the need to drop down to my knee and submit, but I didn’t. I walked up to the man and nodded.

‘Yes sir, I’m Dawn Matthews,’ I said, formally, sticking out my hand for him to shake.

He grabbed my hand, crushing my fingers together.

‘Rogue..’ I heard the man whisper under his breath.

I look at him confused, but when he gives me the same look, I decide it wasn’t directed to me.

‘My name is Spencer Woods. I am the owner of this company. Will you follow me into my office?’ he asked.

I followed the man, I felt very uncomfortable. He was a powerful man and I felt it. His office was decorated very sharp, all white and very clean. He pointed at a chair for me to sit in, across from his desk, he sat down in the large desk chair.

‘Miss Matthews, why are you interested in this job?’ he went straight to the point.

‘I’ve been looking for a job the past few weeks and in my own sector, but there is no real demand for veterinarians. Between high school and veterinary school, I have completed my personal assistant classes and got my degree for that as well,’ I told him.

I never wanted to be this honest, but what I said was completely honest. I would have wanted to tell him how I read about the company and that they needed a receptionist or secretary and I felt qualified, but it all just came out.

‘Are you up to the pressure, do you deal with pressure a lot?’ he asked.

He was being so direct, it was a little overwhelming.

‘During my internship I’ve had to endure quite a lot of pressure and I haven’t buckled yet,’ I answered.

‘How long will you be available?’ he asked.

‘I have no future plans, so how long do you need me?’ I asked.

‘I will have someone call you if you got the job, you will leave,’ he said abruptly.

I was a little shocked, but got to my feet.

‘Ehm.. thank you sir,’ I said, holding out my hand again.

He didn’t acknowledge it so I walked out of the office and went to the elevator, pushing the button furiously. Soon it came and within minutes I was outside the building, walking to my car, a little confused about how it went.

When I got home, I had shook off the feeling and was trying to be happy about the nice food Rhea would have cooked for us. I parked my car and when I looked at the clock, I realised I would have to wait for almost an hour. The drive was long and it had made me so hungry, but she would never budge. If Rhea said we’d eat at six, we always would. It was five now. I got out off my car. I wished I was still working at the petstore, I had worked there during six years of studying. I had made a lot of money in that time and my parents hadn’t let me spend a dime, except for my car. So almost everything I earned was still on my bank account. I got into the house and sat down on the couch.

‘You okay, honey?’ Rhea asked.

‘Yes mom, I just feel a little strange. It was a weird interview. How was your afternoon?’ I asked, offering her a smile while she sat down across from me.

‘Fine,’ she answered and switched on the television.

An hour later Rhea had cooked a beautiful meal and me and David were digging in. I loved her cooking and so did my foster dad. We cleaned both our plates and grinned at each other, this time he had been faster, usually I would have cleared my plate first. David and I both did the dishes, after which I wanted to go to bed early. In my room I looked at my e-mail and watched a little television, before getting into bed, pondering about what I’d do the next day.
